square cloud textures

Is uninstalling then reinstalling a major thing  Jim? Is there a  process I need to follow as never done this before. I have a lot of orbx stuff and a few aircraft and so I guess I will need to uninstall those first?

Apologize for not responding sooner. I use the PMDG guide for uninstalling/reinstalling FSX - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx. Since you are completely uninstalling FSX and removing all fsx directories, you should not have to worry about Orbx stuff. Same goes with aircraft. However, if you see the item in the Add/Remove programs, you should uninstall so that it will remove any registry entries too. Unfortunately you will have to reinstall Orbx and any aircraft after you reinstall FSX/Acceleration.

I just noticed in the photo you published in post #4 above that your AI textures are missing. There's a possibility that Ultimate Traffic was not installed properly. I would uninstall that program, run fsx, and see if the problem is fixed. Same goes with your other addons. Uninstall them one at a time, run fsx and see if this fixes the problem. Definitely try uninstalling the AirbusX and seeing if this fixes the problem. I'm with Hussar above. Your clouds are eventually showing up. They are just taking a long time rendering. Something is eating memory resources.

If you have scenery like photoscenery, that will not have to be reinstalled. You will just have to link the scenery up again in your Scenery Library. But if you have payware addon scenery, then that will have to be uninstalled, reinstalled too.

Hope this helps.

No problem jim. Well after sleeping on it I decided to go for the uninstall  as I had a few other problems in the past with crashes and also momentary black ground tiles and thought this would be the best option.

I looked up how to uninstall and reinstall FSX and actually used the very guide that you mentioned. It was not quite as difficult to uninstall everything as I thought it would be.. I  also uninstalled all add on aircraft and Ultimate traffic 2 and started off with a fresh install. So far I have added FTX Global, Ultimate traffic 2, My Lancair Legacy and The Duke V2 and so  far no square clouds , I have noticed that the textures seem to load quicker when switching views and its nice and smooth, The only things I have added to the CFG is HIGHMEMFIX and setting widescreen to True.

. I have Active Sky Next, the Airbus and some Orbx regions left to install as well as a few add on airports. What I am doing is testing the sim after each new add on and noting the results. Hopefully those square clouds will be banished. I will report back when all my add ons are installed.

That is great news! If you get the square clouds and slow rendering again, try to write down everything you had done just before you started seeing them, including any changes to your computer system or Windows. Now you should be able to enjoy FSX and your payware addons a lot more and that makes for more fun. Love that Duke V60 and can't wait until it is released for P3D!

That's good news, glad to hear the reinstall went well.  It rarely fails to fix an issue, now you can get back to simming.  Bet it's what Jim said, probably an effects file that was corrupt or missing.

I'm taking it real slowly and noting everything down that I'm installing, I love the Realair planes too, definitely my favourites. Have just the Caranado B1900 and the Airbus to install and then will decide on what scenery to  install. I Have one question re scenery, does it place more load on the sim the  more you install?

Only if it is photoscenery. Photoscenery that is enabled in the Scenery Library will load no matter where you are flying. It will definitely take up a massive amount of resources. I understand the other types of sceneries, like airports, will only use the resources if you are flying in the area of the airport. The largest resource hog that I know if (besides photoscenery) is Autogen so you will want to be careful with that and test different settings. Of course, if you have photoscenery, then it can be turned off.
