FSX already installed but...

Featured Replies

Hi pilots,

Here is my problem: I was Win7 installed in a SSD and FSX and all it's related addons in another. Some blackout killed my Windows SSD and while my complaint form gets answered, I'll buy a new SSD for Windows. My question is if once Windows is installed on the new drive, I can use my already installed FSX and if so, how I could do it. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You should reinstall FSX as the directories will not be set up on your new hard drive and Simconnect will not be installed.

Hi Jim,

I supposed that had to be that way. Thanks for your quick answer. Reinstall Windows, reinstall FSX, reinstall ALL addons I use...frustrating :t0117:

Or rename your FSX folder.

Install FSX.

Delete the new install.

Rename your original install to it's original name.

You may still have to reinstall some addons, things that write to the registry.

Simple scenery and airplanes should be OK.

Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your answer. I've decided to do a clean install of everything. As you can guess, it's gonna be a loooong and boring process but if due to any reason, I have to install Windows, then I prefer to start from the beginning with FSX world installations.

Cheers

I´m through a pretty similar thing. My main storrage HDD (with FSX) went down, Windows itselfe wss luckily unaffected. But I fel that such things are also a chance for change. I haven´t nearly installed the half of my pior addons and found whole new areas of interest in avation I´d never found if my HDD didn´t crash: Instead of flying 737 and 777 on a daily basis I´ve now found Miliaty Ops to be even more entertaining. Something I would have never found when I didn´t have had to reinstall.

Best regards, Steffen
