ASN Destroyed my FPS!

Featured Replies

I am a new user of ASN and I must say the weather is stunning. However, my FPS have been absolutely slaughtered! It looks like a slideshow anytime I'm on the ground or below about 10,000 when weather / clouds are present. I have tried reducing the cloud layers to 2, reduced minimum and maximum draw down to 80nm, lowered some AA settings in Nvidia Inspector, reduced ground traffic to 0, reduced autogen to normal, and reduced cloud and water textures in REX to 512. Still, it looks like a slideshow when I'm in the clouds with FPS below 10. Honestly I can't fly or even enjoy my sim like this. I would sincerely appreciate any help with this. Thanks!

AMD FX 6300 4.5Ghz
GTX 660 OC
Windows 7 64 bit
REX Essential Plus
Active Sky Next
FTX Global
PMDG 737 & 777
FS Shade

Hey, my PC specs aren't even as close to yours and I have very good FPS with ASN , using all the addons above mentioned with an exception to FS Shade. do you use nvidia inspector tweaks by any chance?

Yes, I do use Nvidia inspector. Would you mind sharing your settings please? Thanks!

Just to add, I have most of the fsx settings on high. I have water detail on Low 2.

Ground traffic is off.

As it relates to ASN:

I have most left to default with the exception to the clouds and visibity,

I have my ASN cloud draw distance set to 120nm,

lower visibility at 70nm

Visibility ( upper) at 120nm.

Extended overcast On

Cloud layers 7

Nvidia Inspector:

I use the 4xS version on this link

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/

I used the 8xS settings at first but I realized the 4xS settings gives me a smoother performance with my NVIDIA GT 750 Ti

I never have my FPS drop below 24fps

Thanks for the info. I'm using the 8xS settings on Inspector from that same page. I will try the 4xS settings and see how it goes. I will also try your ASN settings along with it and see if I get better results.

I´ve got similar specs but ASN is working great on my side. Even in most severe situations the frames are all right.

Hi Ben,

ASN shouldn't bring your sim to it knees, if you haven't got it sorted out with Travis or Steffen then may I suggest that you post at the official ActiveSky forum for help:

Hello Robert -

I didn't think ASN should stress my system either. Before ASN I always used REX without any problems. I did try the settings that Travis suggested but it did not change my poor performance in heavy cloud coverage. I also posted on The Active Sky forum a few days ago and just got the first reply today http://www.hifitechinc.com/forums/showthread.php?3681-FPS-suffering!

Hi Ben,

You are in good hands there and you can always submit a support ticket but Damian and Kostas are good at figuring out issues that a user may have.  Good luck and I hope you get your FPS back up to snuff.

Update:

I did a few things. First I set my antivirus / Firewall (Avast) to exclude ASN. Then I actually set all of my ASN settings as per Matt Davies settings in this video:

. Then I set all of my Nvidia Inspector settings to 4xS as per outlined by Ryan from PMDG in this post http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/ . I also verified that my cloud, sky and water textures were set to 512 in REX. I did a test flight in the PMDG 777-200LR with Vatsim weather in a good, dense storm and BAM! FPS is back up around 30 :) I will be conducting several more "test" flights in different parts of the world with different weather to verify these settings but it is FAR better than before and I believe I have nailed it.

Thanks everybody for your help and advice, it paid off (as usual) B)
