October 10, 201411 yr I also have noticed this in 2.4....2.3 still had it but I don't recall it ever being this bad. I start off 30%-35% more frames at the start....I am on water and not over heating here is my screen of whats going on on final. I have flown into airports with addon and airports without addons and I still see this FPS loss....It sux landing like this..... In this still I took away my first physical core to test (and same outcome) Also I get massive dynamic frames....could be 15FPS then 35-55 even for a flash.... I have no tweaks in my CFG and just SGSS 2x in my NI. Useing rex+ASN at 1024 32bit for weather with 7/8 broken and 1 layer max. George Kyriazis | www.georgekonline.com
October 10, 201411 yr I assume when people say they have no overheating/throttling that they are referring to both the CPU and GPU. nVidia GPUs start downclocking at rather modest temperatures (sometimes as low as 70°C), well below the initial thermal throttling temperature, which is usually 80°C+. NvIdia cards from Kepler on out have a boost clock mode, just like Intel CPUs do. But one begins to lose this "boost" as temperatures increase: http://cdn.overclock.net/3/34/600x341px-LL-34a9aeaa_clock_vs_temp.gif But given the symptoms presented in this thread, I would also guess that some other process is hogging system resources. Maybe it's the nasty "Application Experience Program" rundll process that's only supposed to be running when the system is idle, but runs whenever it feels like it: http://www.eightforums.com/performance-maintenance/44709-windows-host-process-rundll32-high-cpu-usage.html It's worth it to run Process Explorer, see what's running when the FPS "dive" occurs and then methodically suspend tasks (like Search Indexer, anti-virus apps, updaters, etc.) that aren't necessary for proper functioning of both P3d and the OS.

Please can you give me your settings in prepar3D as well as NVI ? Also are you in v2.2, 2.3 or 2.4 ? May that help me and remove the idea of P3D bug !!!!!!
October 10, 201411 yr I'm running 2.4, unlimited frame rate, without either NI or CFG file tweaks. My settings are at or somewhat below those recommended by Rob Ainscough (the P3d Moderator here, search and you find the link to his recommended settings), but that's because I only have a GTX 680. I also run the full ORBX suite, ASN and REX 4 textures. I also run MyTraffic Pro 5 with dukeav's Traffic Optimizer. I'm easily above 30 fps using most aircraft (Aerosoft's Airbus A319 is the one exception) except in dense urban areas and then I get somewhere between 20 and 25 fps. You really need to see what else is running on your system while you are running P3d. Generally people get frame rate drops when they fly from forested areas into urban areas with more autogen buildings, roads, road traffic and major airports. But if that is not the case and the frame rate drops are always catastrophic at some fixed interval of time, something is happening that is either hardware-throttling or another software process that is eating CPU cycles. That's why I suggest taking a look at what else is running when the frame rate drop occurs. If all else fails, file a support ticket with Lockheed Martin via the official P3d website.
October 11, 201411 yr Author Unfortunately, there is nothing related to the system, I am just 80% sure its the sim bug !!!!! It seems like I'll coming back to FSX !!!!!!
October 11, 201411 yr Have you tried to open the Win task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC keys), go to the third tab (1st applications, 2nd processes, 3rd tasks? - I'm using a german version of Win7, so I don't know the exact names), sort the tasks for their status (klick on the column header 'status') and take a look, which task starts 7 minutes after PC startup. Maybe you can pin down the faulty task and can change it in a way that it does not influence P3D in the observed way. Michael. October 11, 201411 yr Task Scheduler also I would look at. You would be surprised the different things, that run automatically sometimes on your computer that you don't even know about. Most people talk all about Anti-virus, but that is just one of dozens of programs that run in the background. I have edited almost every program through Task Manager on my computers, as I found some of them just update/run whenever instead of low usage times. I have most the work my computer does now start to run after midnight, then I have a custom task to run CCleaner and then shut down when it is finished once every two weeks. William Sequeira
October 14, 201411 yr Author Steam.exe !!!!!!!!!! I am sure 80% its the cause,,,,, Still on the testing...... .followed....... Yes yes yes, its the steam.exe which start after a couple of minutes from P3D/FSX starting, its use a 30% to 40% of the CPU usage causing the same hitting in both FSX & P3D. Thanks for all the people give me the help and hints to monitor the background thought TASK MANAGER & AVG PC Tuner. Hope this help and i hope the topic still on the top to help other friends if they face this problem. Thx.

October 14, 201411 yr Hope this help and i hope the topic still on the top to help other friends if they face this problem. Steam is a big resource hog. Unless you are using your PC almost exclusively to run Steam-based games, I suggest that you not run Steam on Windows startup. While you are at it, see what else that you have running which probably also can be closed. The Windows task manager also shows a complete list of startup programs and the WTM can be used to disable specific apps. Anti-virus scanners are also notorious for pestering the CPU endlessly and should be disabled while running a non-networked flight sim.
