Yeah I went to update yesterday and it says it will erase all date on my drive. So I didn't update

Where does it say this?

 

The instruction pdf says:

 

"There is always the risk of data loss

when updating SSD firmware. It is

imperative that the user backs up

any important data before performing a

firmware update with Performance Restoration

application or Dos Solution."

I haven't noticed any performance loss with both 840 EVO's I have, if the loss of data is possible then I think I'll pass on this update, I use SSD's only, just a 2TB HDD for storage and random bits.

It should not erase anything. They just put a disclaimer on in case it happens ... Which is possible with any firmware update.

 

Btw I did the update and nothing was erased.

There is a thread already.

Anyway, there is of course risk whenever you update firmware, but it's minimal. Even if you loose data, SSD should be operation device, not data storage device, so worst case would be reinstallation of windows and software.

All 840EVO devices are affected, you can notice it if you pay attention.
