Deleting Un-Used Planes in FS9

Featured Replies

Hiis it possible to delete any of the planes that you do not use in FS9 without any adverse reactions/problems.of course, I realise that the relevant Flights would have to be deleted that used those planes as well, and I know that we should leave the gauges in place as they are sometimes generic, but, would it be OK to delete the planes.thanks

Not sure about this, but you could try moving the specific aircraft folders to a temp folder in a different directory and then fire up the sim. Then if ok, delete the temp folder.I don't think there would be an adverse reaction. However, some of the payware and freeware aircraft come with installers and uninstallers, and if that is the case, you may want to do an uninstall on those.RegardsJoeaopa.gif" border="0" alt="Grab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a]

Just don't delete any of the default planes. Doing that can cause problems.

Its very easy - but this procedure does *not* delete them - it just hides them so you will not see them in your drop-down window. This causes no problems at all (as opposed to deleting them). This de-clutters your aircraft menu though! You are only left with the planes you like to fly!1. First download the small free programme called AirEd.2. Now you open the *.air file for the plane you do not want to use and change the "Aircraft Type" to 2.3. This hides the plane and stops it from appearing in the aircraft menu.Do these three steps for all the planes you do not fly and you are set!Get AirEd here:http://www.simradar.com/File/2363/AirEd_Version_1_51.html:)

Hi. The ones I don't fly I put in a folder called, surprisingly, perhaps 'Unused Planes'. This folder lives in 'My Documents' but I don't know if it makes any difference to the sim's activity speed. It doesn't seem as if it does.Andy.

I have deleted all the planes I don't fly and there is no problem with the sim.Just don't attempt the flights that utilize those aircraft. On loading the sim all the gauges and effects go into their relevant places. Deleting the a/c you don't use dosen't get rid of those essentials.Right, should I do another quick lap of the old Nurburgring circuit with 'GT4' or go flying?Dave T.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------I have deleted all the planes I don't fly and there is no problem with the sim.-----------------------------------------------------------------------Hey thats interesting :) I always thought deleting them would cause problems for add-on planes. It would help greatly if I could trim the Aircraft folder of planes I dont use (all the default ones!)

You have to keep the default ones. I tried deleting those and had all kinds of problems. A lot of addon aircraft use gauges and such from the default planes and if they go to look for them and they're not their you will have unexpected-and at times unfortunate-results. billg

The gauges are not a problem, as the default reside in a folder separate from the aircraft. But, many add-on aircraft use the sounds or complete panels of default aircraft. By deleting the default aircraft, the new ones will not work. This is not a problem if you are willing, and know how, to modify new aircraft and have them point somewhere else for their sounds or panels.Another option is to place the panels and sounds from default aircraft in the aircraftfsfsconv folder, delete the default, and point any add-on aircraft to this folder in case of need.But... you will lose a large part, if not all, of your AI Traffic by getting rid of default aircraft. Unless, of course, you have already removed the default AI Traffic.Best regards.Luis

Indeed - I've removed almost all default planes, classic and otherwise, plus many of their gauges and sounds, not to mention the entire learning center, adventures, situations (except the default in case the sim pukes and needs to find it again) - all with no adverse effects whatsoever.Completely re populated with better freeware/payware. The sim is very robust - delete away if you're comfy with the back end.regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256

I've done the same as mark has with great success. I've also gotten rid of 3rd party a/c that I no longer fly including the respective gauges. Never had a problem (knock on wood)

------------------------------------------------------------------------except the default in case the sim pukes------------------------------------------------------------------------Hahaa! I like that :)I have every add-on backed up so Im gonna delete all the stuff I dont use like those old bi-planes, adventures, learning center etc!
