April 28, 200521 yr Does the Flight Environment program get rid of the horrible ocean textures in the distance when flying at high altitudes? If not, what does? It really looks bad and I use downloaded weather so changing the visibility distance doesn't seem to be an option. Thanks
April 28, 200521 yr Do you mean the 'squares'? I don't think squares can be elliminated.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpg Michael J.
April 28, 200521 yr I mean the big square around you in the distance that displays the default ocean color which gets more noticable above 20k feetSo Fox this program fixes that problem? Looks like I know what I'll be buying this weekend! Thanks
April 28, 200521 yr Alex, Flight1 offers refund policy within 30 days so the best way for you is to purchase the program and try it yourself. In my opinion the tile problem is not fixable but maybe you have something else in mind. Their water is the best there is however. April 28, 200521 yr That's too bad you can't fix the draw distance problem with the water. It really looks horrible and distracting. The better the water looks, the more out of place the tiles make it look at higher altitudes.... Oh well, can you direct me to some high altitude screenshots of the water if you know of any? Thanks. And I might take flight1 up on the refund.
April 28, 200521 yr One option which may help you is if you change your terrain draw distance in display settings down to it's lowest setting. You may still get a ring of distant ocean textures if visiblity is unlimited at your cruising altitude, but this may improve it.-John
April 28, 200521 yr Commercial Member It's an FS2004 engine problem, not the textures themselves... FS only draws that cross shaped area in detail and everything outside of it starts looking weird at altitude - it's more noticable the higher you go. April 28, 200521 yr Thanks for the info. Then how can I get flight sim to display a sort of fog to possibly mask it a little? Is this something a program like activesky can do? I have the registered version of fsuipc but that doesn't seem to do anything in good weather that I download using the fs9 engine
April 28, 200521 yr YES! YES! YES! it does!!! I've been flying mostly transatlantic and transpacific flights and I can absolutely confirm that the stupid squares are gone all the way to the horizon. They are now non existant.Mike T
April 28, 200521 yr hi alex,Flight environment adresses the problem you are looking at to a degree, in the most part it does a job better than equal or better to default fs9 water. Nearly all 3rd party water base tiles do not respect and follow microsoft color references. Flight Environment has endeavored to seamlessly join with fs9 default colors. Advanced techniques are used with mip maps to make this join less noticable in some areas. for example off the coast of sydney, flight environment is much improved over fswater and better than the default fs9 water. Also i would like to point out that sophisticated manipulation of mip-maps has allowed FE2004 to make considerable improvements to reduce pattering, improve blending and two allow color correction without advertly comprising the horizon look.I could go into more depth, but it is really not appropiate to discuss technical "secrets" here. I can assure you that FE2004 does a very good job at reducing and minimising negative horizon effects.I can tell you that for example in the tropical regions FE water faints green water to blue where required to emulate e realistic feeling of distance and depth effects, not only this but the big advantage here is that shallow green tropical waters blend VERY well with microsoft reference colors in terms of horizon effects.regards,Anthonyhttp://members.home.nl/vos69/logofe.jpg
April 28, 200521 yr I find it funny that the question was asked if FE will cure it, the person was told "yes" and even told that if he isnt satisfied he can get a refund, then, several people try to give him advice that we all know never masks that stupid line.FE does address the issue and fixes for the most part, it will be noticable but with FE it's very very faint, and with the updated FE with the new haze effect, it is even better then before....
April 28, 200521 yr Is this updated haze effect already in the downloadable program? Thanks, it looks like I will be purchasing FE after work tonight. I wonder how it will work with Activesky V but until then I will be happy with this program I am sure, thanks all for the responses.
May 2, 200521 yr I bought FE friday and all weekend enjoyed the beautiful water, sky, and clouds! What a great add-on! I'd post pictures but I can't figure out how to change the size of them, my screenshots are over 5 megs each!
May 2, 200521 yr Glad you like the product and thanks for buying it.There will be regular updates so you can have more cloud and water options to keep you busy.Peter Wilding; developer of Flight Environment
