May 16, 200521 yr Hi,When I downloaded the P-3 orion I extracted the zip file to a folder on my desktop. I then tried to run the.exe file and got a small window with "preparing..." as the title. Then I got a message telling me to attach my mobile device. I was, to say the least, rather ######. My own feeling is that this is likely to be a problem with my own PC and not with the aircraft itself. Many thanks for any help you can provide
May 16, 200521 yr I didn't have your problem but for some reason the aircraft did not show up in the selection window. So,and what might help you, I opened a file and named it PCORION, ran the .exe directing the zip to extract to that file and not to FS9.Then manually installed the aircraft. Everything now works as expected except that the RPM's on all 4 engines fluctuate up and down significently in AP and having flown in the P-3 Orion from Seattle WA to to Adak AK quite a few years ago I spent a great deal of time in the "office" and was never aware of this being the case.
May 16, 200521 yr Thanks Canuck but the problem is that i can't even get the aircraft files out of the .exe. I wouldn't mind istalling it manually but because the files are jammed into a .exe i have no way of geting to them. Does anyone know of a way i can "unwrap" an exe file and get all of the goodies inside so that I can place them the manual way. Thanks again.
May 16, 200521 yr The main exe file is a self-extracting LHA archive. This is a very old format and cannot be directly opened by winzip or winrar. One option is Simplyzip http://www.winxpfix.com/Windows-Software-P...5.htm#simplyzipThere are probably plenty of other archivers that work, that's just the first one I found with direct LHA support. You can use this to open the P-3C_GMAX_FS9.EXE file as if it was a zip file and extract all the contents to a folder. From there you can run install.exe to install the plane. Hope this helps.Clyde
May 16, 200521 yr The install worked fine for me. It shows up under "Lockheed and Kawasaki" with four models and several variations. It flies great. No engine oscillations in autopilot for me either. Regards, Bob.
May 16, 200521 yr Your suggestion worked. Very pleased with it. Noticed how it is quite heavy on landing in that a fair amount of power is needed right until touch down to avoid spinal damage. And that was with a 20% fuel load.

It does tend to sink like a rock even at 10% FOB.For "safe practice," take it up to 5,000' AGL w/ 20% FOB, and practice slow and dirty for awhile: full flaps, gear down. Keep reducing power until she starts to sink. After a few attempts, you'll get the feel for her... :) Fr.
