January 7, 201511 yr Good afternoon, i want to make a backup of FS9, is it possible to copy all four discs to a USB stick and install the game from it??
January 7, 201511 yr Yes, but then FS9 will require the USB drive to be present each time you start FS9.
January 7, 201511 yr Author Would you please tell me how to do that and which software i need? If not too much trouble of course..
January 7, 201511 yr Set up 4 folders on the USB, Disk 1-4 Copy the contents of each CD into it's matching folder on the USB drive.
January 7, 201511 yr Author I have done that, copied the content from all four game discs onto the USB stick, when i try to install the game to my laptop however, it goes along until FS9 asks me to insert disc 2 into the drive...since i am installing from an USB stick, how can i make that work so the game continues installation??
January 7, 201511 yr Try with everything in one folder. I know it's possible because people have done it by copying the CDs to a hard drive and installing from there.
January 7, 201511 yr Copying FS9 to a USB stick will not transfer the special non-standard sector to disk 4 ("Safe Disk" copy protection scheme). Inserting CD disk 4 will still be required to run FS. The volume or ID file names for each install disk are also critical as I recall. One thing to note is that in the registry for FS9 there is a value for the disk you installed from. You need to insure that your USB stick as a removable drive is assigned a permanent drive letter via the admin disk manager tools in your Win version. That is where each time you start FS it will look for Disk 4 for its copy protection. You might have to edit the registry to get it assigned to a CD drive where you'll place Disk 4. Either way you need a permanent drive letter assignment.
January 9, 201511 yr I do NOT advocate piracy at all, but, there are stories of guys that do a fresh working install of FS9, then copy that over onto a drive or stick. This is then used as a backup with Flight1's registry tool to make all work. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
