January 13, 201511 yr Hi, I'm currently planning on building a new rig. I wanna be able to get the best possible experience in P3D, while at the same time being relatively future proof and keeping in mind potential P3D 64-bit. I've chosen the following components: Case: Corsair Carbide Series 300R CC-9011014-WW Mid-Tower Gaming CaseCPU: Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU (Quad Core 4GHz, Socket H3 LGA-1150)CPU Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i All-In-One 240mm Digital High Performance Rad Liquid Cooler for CPUGPU: Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Strix Graphics Card (4GB, GDDR5, PCI Express 3.0)PSU: Corsair HX Series CP-9020032-EU 850W (reuse from current rig)HD1: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5-inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive (Windows 7)HD2: Samsung 840 EVO 1TB 2.5-inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive (P3D)Sound: ASUS Xonar DG (reuse from current rig)RAM: G Skill 2x 8GB PC3-19200 DDR3 2400MHz Gaming Memory Kit (CL10)Mainboard: Mod 1150 ASUS Z97 Maximus VII Hero ATX Motherboard7 Any thoughts on this system? Thanks, Max
January 13, 201511 yr You will be very happy with that system. I have a similar system and the results are outstanding.
January 13, 201511 yr Max I would be happier if you were to replace one of the SSD's with an M.2 equivalent ... your motherboard supports it and it is definitely quicker, important for the future.
January 13, 201511 yr Consider 16GB RAM? If P3D does go x64 it will be helpful. Frankly I've almost reached my 8gb limit when running FSX with other software open - and when I run XP10x64 I can easily get 8GB physical usage. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 14, 201511 yr Author Max I would be happier if you were to replace one of the SSD's with an M.2 equivalent Can you explain this technology a little bit? It's the first time I've heard about it. Consider 16GB RAM? If P3D does go x64 it will be helpful. It is 16GB, it's just 2x 8GB sticks as I've read that this would be better than 4x4. Oh, btw, I've changed the case to a Corsair 550d silent. Found out the H100i might have trouble fitting into the 300R, plus the silent is just as the name suggests - more silent, thanks to noise-insulation.
January 14, 201511 yr Oops I misread! Good choice then | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 14, 201511 yr Can you explain this technology a little bit? Google is your friend. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx8fdVBs38E Explanation of the technology up to 4:30.
January 14, 201511 yr Author Google is your friend.www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx8fdVBs38EExplanation of the technology up to 4:30. Thanks. To be honest, this looks like something to watch out for in the future, but for now I'm sticking with the SSDs. I can get pretty much 4 times the capacity for the same price, and it's a more mature technology. In a few years, I agree that this might become interesting.
