P-3 Representative flight plans

Featured Replies

Can anybody advise any "representative flight plans for the KBT P-3?In particular any between USN bases, or other areas where the P3 might typically operate, including any operational patrols?ThanksEric

EricWhat can be called typical for an P-3 is actually non-typical if viewed in the context of flying frm Pt A to Pt B. If u want to simulate a non-ASW mission profile then then any HI-ALT airway routing between NAS's would be fine.In the ASW role it can be anywhere with deployments to FOB (Forward Operating Bases) pretty typical - Diego Garcia, Rota, Japan and the like.I flew on several P-3s in the DrugPat role back in the 80's as a Liasion Officer for the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). We used acft from NAS Brunswick. We'd leave Maine and fly at altitude down to Bermuda or in the 'general vincity'. Then we'd loiter at a mid rge altitude until we had a surface contact. Then it was down on the deck; 200-500 fts, and make several passes to rig the surface ship. Rigging a ship is a certain pass made that allows a good photographic coverage of a ship from the P-3. Ten hrs later it was back up and back north to Brunswick. The VIP transports that fly (or flew) out of Kaneohe, Keflavik and Sigonella probably have/had a 'firmer' route sked than a typical fleet airframe. They fly admin support to their respective areas of operation - Pacific, Europe and the Med.I have dated material but the main P-3 'hubs' use to be Brunswick, Jacksonville, Rota, Kaneohe, Whidbey, Willow Grove, Point Mugu, New Orleans, Keflavik, Sigonella, and Pax River. If u work up fltplans between any or all those and and then to various places overseas that should keep u navigating for quite a while.Hope this is of some help to u.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117803.jpg

Thanks Joe!Eric

Kef's bird was a trash hauler, not a VP-3A. Its been removed from service, wing crack not worth fixing. Sig's VP-3A was replace bout 2 years or so ago with either a C-20 or VC-37 not sure which. Same fate last year wing crack not worth fixing. Our VP-3A is in PDM in Jax, awaiting its fate, agian wing crack, need either wing replaced or VC-37 delievered early, the brass mulling that one over. The last of the VP-3A's(CNO's plane) in PDM in Jax as well, probably will suffer same fate. Our UP-3A is only UP in the fleet with partial VIP config. left. Goes in for SSI in Aug will probably suffer same fate as rest.P-3's only use Diego for a gas station in the middle of the ocean, No longer deployed there. Middle East is mostly Bahrain, Kandahar, Qatar, and Djbouti(sp?) West Pac is Misawa, Japan and Kadena AB. Sometimes det to Pohang Korea, U-Tapau Thailand, Singapore, etc.East Coast is primarily Sig as then main deployment site, with dets out of there to varous places. With the new deployment scheduling they are home 18 months and deployed 6. To make this rotaion work, the squadionrs no long stay on the side of the world they are based IE only west coast squadrons go to Japan for deployment. VP-8 from Brunswick NAS in Maine is in Misawa / Kadena Japan right now.:-outtahttp://publish.hometown.aol.com/p3superb/i...s/sign_name.jpgThere is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown"My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child

I am glad to have been in VP-10 in the golden years, with a deployment from Brunswick Me. to NAS Bermuda in 1978,what a great time!:)

I repainted the P-3C in a NOAA livery and added some special touches so the pilot's at my VA could fly it too. I use the fake designation WP-3C and plan to generate FishPat and Environmental Survey routes that our VA will fly "on a lease back" basis. Here's a pix.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117949.jpgDaisuke and Team (KBT) are asking for feedback on their website from anyone interested in other versions of their P-3C such as a Hurricane Hunter.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117950.jpg

Orions are used as hurricane hunters? I did not know that, I always thought that just C-130 was used. I learned something new today :-lol

Yep, they have two highly modified Charlie Airframes. One built in '75 and the other '76. They carry the designation WP-3D. One is named "Miss Piggy" and the other "Kermit" Bit of worthless trivia: They are the ONLY two aircraft built on the Lockheed line that were not in ASW config. All the other 5,000+(not quite that high, but there are a buttload) non-ASW configed Orions are modified ASW birds.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117965.jpghttp://www.aoc.noaa.gov/NOAA has a whole fleet of various aircraft They are based at McDill AFB in Florida.US Customs has IIRC 20 P-3As 10 with the E-2C/E-3A like, roto-dome on top and 10 with-out called "Slicks" the work together in Hunter-Killer Teams. They are supposed to be uping the invntory to 20 each. They are based in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Jacksonville Florida. The P-3 AEW&Chttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/117967.jpg:-outtahttp://publish.hometown.aol.com/p3superb/i...s/sign_name.jpgThere is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown"My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
