Ground work tutorial

I am starting a new series this time geared toward scenery design.  This is the first part and it shows you how to locate a satellite image and place it into FSX.

Some shots of what it will become...

This is a nice video thanks. I like the progression of the tut more than a few others I have tried to watch. I might even start to create a few APs. I want to create my own 3D models and refined textures so I can export them for the community. (IE not using other creators models)

I work in 3D and live in Photoshop. Just need to know the optimal work flow to get stuff into FSX.

Keep the rest coming....please!!  :)

Thanks Mr. Hayes!

Hi Gary - Thank you for the video, I found it very informative.

When do you think the second video will be available?

I haven't watched them all the way through.  A lot of the basics I already know.  I am now trying to forge ahead into the world of Custom Ground Polys.  I have made my first few texture sheets.  I have loaded the DXT compressed DDS version in the ADE Texture folder and the 24 bit into the Texture_DSY folder.   Textures show up fine ADE.  I lay the ground poly work, select the texture segment to use, save and and export all but when I get in the sim the polygon I have made is black.    I just don't understand what I am doing wrong.   I thought I followed the manual correctly.   My texture sheet is a 1024 x 1024 that has all my red runway markings on it and some lines for holds.    They are alpha mapped for wear and tear.   I saved the file as DXT3.  I thought this was the correct path but my textures never show up, only the polygon which is filled in with black.  Any ideas?

Brian, are you using ADE to make your ground polys? Did you copy the textures to your scenery's texture folder in FSX? I haven't used ADE_GP in a long time so otherwise I don't know, I would ask at fsdeveloper in the ADE forum.

Yes.   Everything is where it's suppose to be but the textures are black.  I am suspecting the Alpha map may be wrong.   Ugh...  I have to register on another sim sight...?   T_T     I already can't keep up but if I want to make this airport 'payware' quality I need to learn this stuff.   Thanks.
