February 4, 201511 yr Author The road traffic is an entirely different system - it's really more of a type of autogen - and I can't argue that FS9 is competitive with FSX in the autogen department. As to lake shorelines - well, I suspect what you're referring to is a mesh issue rather than a vector issue... and you can get around that by getting a good mesh! It is true that the promo shot of Lake Powell in UT:USA is cliffy - but that's because that's how the real world is, too... If it is in fact a vector issue, keep in mind that the source data is really important. As I said earlier, the same source data compiled for both sims will get the same result... but the data available for making the FS9 product might not have been the same data used to make the FSX product. Now, you keep talking about UTX for FS9... are you sure that you're looking at the right product page? Here's the link for UT:USA and UT:CAN+AK... http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=utusa http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=utcan Finally - about using OSM with UT:EUR - not a good idea. They do the same thing - you'll get a mess if you try to layer them, running the simultaneously! It's one or the other there... I simply don't use UT:EUR anymore - I like the OSM package better. Thank you....and so sorry to everybody for the error...yes...UT rather than UT(X). Again...that was my mistake. I was so used to always having, and seeing the UTX reference (because of only purchasing them for FSX) , that It scorched into my brain. Yes..I am typing about UT. Ok...so I see that I should remove the OSM before installing for Europe, if I intend to also include Europe in my UT treatment of FS9. Again..thank you to all that responded, and again..sorry for my UTX reference error for the products queried My bad........ I also didn't know that you could get rid of the off-shot shore angles via using a good mesh product for FS9. If that is the case, can you steer me to the 'highest' mesh resolution product out there. That would be GREAT...as this was the only true thing that bothered me between FS9, and FSX. having some weird interaction with the quote function....disregard. disregard. Ses the only superior renderings of roads, rivers and railways etc. in FS9 for Alaska/Canada/USA is photoscenery. I confirm GE Pro and UT series co-exist well. For performance/bug issues I have been advised not to use UT's street lights and so I rely on GE Pro for that. Consistent results therefore wherever I fly in the world. Thank you, Appliance! Good to know that UT will exist alongside GE Pro. I also switch out to the Bird's Eye View product when I feel the want...so I imagine that it will work alongside that as well. I'll probably populate the US and Canada/Alaska, as the prices are still pretty much up there, lol. Ses I simply don't use UT:EUR anymore - I like the OSM package better. This thread is a learning experience...and thank you for that. I did not know/realise that OSM also acted as a vector product...but thought it placed better, more accurate autogen, with associated libraries. I now have the correct understanding on OSM files.
February 4, 201511 yr Hi All: For those unfamiliar with the "OSM" (aka "Open Street Map World for FS2004" add-on project, here's a link to that AVSIM forum: http://forum.avsim.net/forum/719-mario-noriega-designs/ http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/osm-world-for-fs2004.431812/ BTW: Most of the commercially-licensed core vector data, and the UT control center GUI appears to be the same in UTX for FSX as it was in the UT-USA for FS9 Ultimate Terrain products, but the textures used for vector lines, and 'some' of the autogen and lights have changed, and the Canada - Alaska version now features more precise alignment of autogen objects along city-level streets (within the IIUC, intentionally limited city-level land class textures and associated autogen that particular "mostly vector" product line provides). Interestingly, UTX-USA now offers a "version 2" for FSX, and that same author is now offering "Xtreme Cities - USA Southcentral" which looks very nicely detailed at the "City-level", which IIRC, was an issue for Mitch (aka "Ses") recently with the OrbX FTX Global and Pilots.de Vector product lines. http://www.scenerysolutions.com/ Hope this helps ! GaryGB
