February 3, 201511 yr While I have UTX products for FSX and really like what it does for that product, I was wondering if the UTX products for use in FS9 gives the same 'bang-for-the-buck'. Any user's opinions of these products within FS9 is sought, here. For the cost, did you , the user, find it a much better visual representation of FS9? I am really attracted back to FS9 for performance, and sought to heighten the visual experience. I fly all the major sims (and have them...), but FS9 has never taken a back seat in my view, to the use of each. This is my 'Big Iron' simulator, hand's down. So, please advise about UTX (x) I am also running GE Pro 2.13 as well. Will these two play nice in the sand-box? Thanks in advance, Ses
February 3, 201511 yr Author Patience my son ...... many of us are just waking up! LOLOLOLOL.....my finger is on the trigger...but...I first would like to read from my peers...
February 3, 201511 yr Here is an answer from another forum: "UTX was not designed to be backwards compatible and run in FS9, and is therefore completely unsupported. While you may see some scenery changes happening in FS9 when you install UTX scenery files (because of similarities in some of the data in the BGL files which the FS scenery engine uses and which may still work between FSX/FS9) there is no way you will ever get all the features of UTX to appear in FS9." --again, not an original answer but it seems as if the poster had some direct experience with the product.

Just so I'm clear...this is commenting on the actual UTX USA for FS2004, correct? That he is not referring to bringing the FSX over as a conversion? Just want this clear... Thanks.
February 3, 201511 yr I just looked at the UTX page from one of their vendors and it appears that there is a dedicated version of it for FS9. That would suggest that it would be supported by the publisher. Let's wait and see what others say. Hopefully, someone who uses it will respond.
February 3, 201511 yr but...I first would like to read from my peers... For North America you could think Ultimate Terrain: USA for FS2004 and Ultimate Terrain: Canada/Alaska for FS2004. There is also, Ultimate Terrain: Europe for FS2004, all available at Flight1.com. All of these provide better and more accurate roads, rivers -streams and coast lines etc.Hope this helps a bit. No I do not use UTX. Regards,

I just wanted to read from other's experiences, as to how those products did enhance the visuals, or...they were rather minimal as per the FS9 graphics capabilities. In FSX...UTX shines!

In FSX...UTX shines! It is excellent as to what it is intended to do .... as mebull previously stated: "All of these provide better and more accurate roads, rivers -streams and coast lines etc" Also, provides 3-d lighting effects to roads. I wouldn't fly in FS2004 without it (them).

February 3, 201511 yr Define what you mean by minimal! As far as vector terrain, the capabilities of FS9 are identical to those of FSX*. What isn't the same is the file format... Thus, UTX won't work, but the same set of vectors compiled for FS9 would. *well, not identical. You can't exclude LWM features using vectors in FS9... But other than that...

I was wondering because of (IMPO) the inferior shore-lines in FS9 (not bashing it...trust me...) to those of FSX. FS9 still sports straight sections with abrupt angle off's for shore-line following. That is about the only thing within the sim that visually bothers me to distraction. I was hoping that UTX for 2004 would correct that...but shots of it over at Flight 1...post UTX installation...still has inferior coastlines around lakes, etc. Not a show stopper, but still.... The other thing...lol....is now with all the right and correctly placed roads...you have no traffic....what a tease and killer!!!!! LOL. I use for Europe the freeware OSM package along with EVO. An amazing combination. I using the OSM (off of AVSIM) as well. So, you are using all the above, and it is layered over UTX for FS2004? Correct? Or, is UTX layered over the other two? Ses

The other thing...lol....is now with all the right and correctly placed roads...you have no traffic....what a tease and killer!!!!! LOL. The road traffic is an entirely different system - it's really more of a type of autogen - and I can't argue that FS9 is competitive with FSX in the autogen department. As to lake shorelines - well, I suspect what you're referring to is a mesh issue rather than a vector issue... and you can get around that by getting a good mesh! It is true that the promo shot of Lake Powell in UT:USA is cliffy - but that's because that's how the real world is, too... If it is in fact a vector issue, keep in mind that the source data is really important. As I said earlier, the same source data compiled for both sims will get the same result... but the data available for making the FS9 product might not have been the same data used to make the FSX product. Now, you keep talking about UTX for FS9... are you sure that you're looking at the right product page? Here's the link for UT:USA and UT:CAN+AK... http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=utusa http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=utcan Finally - about using OSM with UT:EUR - not a good idea. They do the same thing - you'll get a mess if you try to layer them, running the simultaneously! It's one or the other there... I simply don't use UT:EUR anymore - I like the OSM package better.
February 4, 201511 yr Ses the only superior renderings of roads, rivers and railways etc. in FS9 for Alaska/Canada/USA is photoscenery. I confirm GE Pro and UT series co-exist well. For performance/bug issues I have been advised not to use UT's street lights and so I rely on GE Pro for that. Consistent results therefore wherever I fly in the world.
