Separate Window/View in XPX

Featured Replies

Hello,

I don't have a copy of XPX but was wondering if it was possible to have a separate window open and in display on XPX kind of like FSX allows you to do.  In other words if I wanted to have a map window up in the corner or perhaps a small 2D panel of the primary flight instruments up but still have the majority of my viewing area in the 3d cockpit.  If it isn't stock is there a plug-in or utility that performs this function.

Thanks,

Brett

Hi Brett,

this is not possible.
But pop-ups are widely used - for example the new GPS which has a scaleable 2D pop-up. Some plugins allow pop-ups too (e.g. chart viewer plugin) and many aircraft designers use pop-ups for the FMS or other screens.

But this different to what you have in FSX.

You can run XP in windowed mode under Win7 or Win8 (you didn't say what OS you're using and I haven't a clue about Macs).  I keep my background apps (Plan-G or FS Commander for my moving maps and charts) running in the background and access them with a simple click on the icon on the bottom taskbar - they toggle on/off instantly.  While not an embedded window, I use them full-window size and the switch is instantaneous and simple.  I find a full screen moving map much better than a smaller window which you have to zoom in/out when looking (for example) at an overhead view of runway/taxiways, etc.

I use a second monitor.  XP on primary and map program on the other.  Plan-G is excellent.  It even gives flight following for XP.

Thanks guys!  I appreciate the feedback.  I will have to give the Plan-G a look along with some of the other options.  I have a feeling this will be a decent learning curve....but learning is half the fun :-)

I just run one monitor (1920x1200).  I don't know if using two monitors costs you framerates or not - you might try it and see.
