Step-Descend question

Featured Replies

Hello people!

I have one question regarding step-descend in the 737. Please view the follow flightplan:

DET L6 DVR UL9 KONAN UL607 REMBA/N0400F230 UL607 SPI UQ50 ARCKY L607 ROPUV

As you can see, there is a waypoint with an altitude restriction in the flightplan (REMBA/N0400F230). But this waypoint is very far from landing.

My question in this case is:

If i program my FMC to calculate ToD for the REMBA/F230 restricion, than the further descend caclulation is very stupid. The FMC caclulates a further continous descend path with about 500fpm until landing.

The better solution is to make a new Cruising altitude for FL230 and get a new ToD caclulatad after passing REMBA. But I don't know how to make this in correct order.

Please provide me help with the correct order of the steps to make this.

Thank you.

Set a FL230 restriction at REMBA. Done.

Simple. Set the /FL230 on the legs page REMBA. Then set 23000 on the mcp. When it crosses REMBA at FL230, set a new cruise altitude of FL230 on the CRZ page. You will have a new calculated TOD when ready to descend into your destination airport. Otherwise just use the technique Kyle suggested. As long as you have 23000 in the mcp you won't get the 500 fpm descent you are referring to.

I do the same as Jack in this situation.  Set 230 at REMBA and after you pass the fix re-enter FL 230 on the cruise page.  That will get you back to an idle descent path from FL 230.

If you do re-enter the cruise altitude as FL230 be sure and check the speed.  If you are in ECON it will change your cruise speed at FL230 to something that is lower than you want.  Enter the cruise altitude and wait and see what speed the box comes up with.  If you don't like it enter the new cruise speed before you hit EXEC.  You will need to check the speeds on the descent page as well.
