Nvidia GTX 750 Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Currently I have an intel 4770K overclocked to 4.1 with a Nvidia GTX 750.  When building this system, I was very concerned with budget, so I skimped on the GPU.  I recently learned that this might cause a bottleneck in the system.  My question is, how much better performance will I get with an upgraded gpu, and what is the most cost efficient price per performance gain card to get? (preferably another Nvidia card)

Thanks in advance,

Anyone?

We would need a bit more information from you to give you decent advice about GPU upgrades.

What sim do you use?

What settings do you like to fly with?

Are you using addons that have hi-res textures?

Are you currently getting bad performance, do you actually need the upgrade?

And most importantly, what is you budget?

Of course,

FSX classic

Medium high to high.  (graphics sliders not all the way up, but about 2/3)

No photoreal textures, but PMDG addons, and complex airport addons. (aerosoft, uk2000, flytampa, blueprint)

PMDG ngx gets about 30, PMDG 777 gets about 20.

About or less than 500.

Thanks for the reply!

Does this information help at all?

Hi!
Your i7 is more than enough. I would recommend a GTX 970 or a 980 if you wanna spend a little over 500 bucks (I assume USD). That should give you a few extra frames. And remember, with a more powerful system, you should use DX10, not DX9.

Thanks for the reply,

I use Steve's DX10 fixer with fsx.  With the new graphics card, a few extra frames is how many?  10-15, I can justify 500 dollars, but < 10, is it really worth it?

Thanks again,

That's the problem. A new graphics card might only get you a few more frames.... as in maybe 5 more fps. That's why I ended up getting P3D. It literally just finished downloading, but there's a noticeable difference in framerate.

Ok, I might hold off a new graphics card until I port everything to P3D.

Thanks for all your help,

No prob.  P3D is amazing btw. I only have FTX Global, REX, and the Airbus X installed (like I said, just installed it) but so far it's awesome! Even with my GTX 750 and low end i5. Now I've gotta spend the rest of my spring break setting everything up
