Very Weird

Featured Replies

Hi,

As the title says very weird. Usually one over clocks the system to gain performance but here it is the other way round. Since months I use to clock it to 4.0 ghz and also went to 4.4 Ghz and never gained any performance in XPX so the other day I went and down clocked it to 2.7 Ghz and tadah straight gain of 4-5 fps.  If I get it to 2.9 Ghz I will loose frames.

The other part when I switch off HDR there is no difference between HDR ON + FXAA , today I tried a flight @KBFI on vatsim with the vFlyte Cruiser and the weather was perfect for VFR just not a single cloud and what 27-30 fps earlier was nothing more than 15-18. My settings are on Max except I put the Objects to Mega and shadow to static with HDR to FXAA and World distance to Medium. The clouds are killing but it manages a little better.

Now this makes me thinking that my GPU is not able to cope with the CPU hence my fps goes down.  I don't want to keep spending to gain performance but may just land up going with the GTX750ti 2GB DDR5 as the price is quite good or else leave XPX till 10.40 comes along and see what performance has been elevated. I cannot seem to OC the GPU above 835 / 835 because it is a DDR3 and does not have the power connector.

P.S. : Where can I get real world routes for North America / Europe / Asia / Gulf. Hmm freeware please :)

Zulifiqar,

Have you taken a look at the AVSIM FSX/P3D Setup Guide?  It might help you some with your CPU/GPU bottleneck.

As far as routes go, there is VRoute Freeware which will provide you with routes from all over the world, and...

North America:  http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt?

Europe:  http://www.edi-gla.co.uk/fpl/index.php

Hope you find this useful.

Hi Dave,

 Why would i need a Fsx / P3d guide I am on X plane 10 and don't have P3d

Maybe you meant to try it according to the guide well I shall check that too.

Thanks for the links for the routes will check them

Ah, I'm so sorry.  I linked to your post from the front page of AVSIM, not realizing it was made in the X-Plane forum.

Most welcome for the links.

The bottle neck is going to be the 2gb of vram. I wouldn't buy anything with less then 6gb of vram, at bare min 4gb. Monitor size, resolution, and rendering setting effect vram.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11.

I have a new rig I just built that is pretty close to state of the art.  If I had one thing to change, it would be even more VRAM than 4GB.  My CPU is never close to loaded.  A new Titan-X is on the horizon.

i7-4790K o/c @ 4.8 GHz, Corsair H-110 liquid cooler, 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, MSI Maximus VII Hero mobo

Samsung Pro 512 GB SSD

Corsair GFX Hydro GTX-1080 8 GB, (2) 4TB hybrid HDs

Win 10 (1607), X-Plane 10.51r2 and X-Plane 11.01b1

I have seen several people who have overclocked and suffer a hit in X-Plane performance.  I have never overclocked anything (can't as my i7 is a 4770 - no K) so I can't use my own experience, but I have seen this discussed before.

I have my i7-4790K running at 4.8GHz - just because I can with a liquid cooler.  But running it at it's native 4.0GHz (4.4GHz turbo mode) doesn't gain or lose any frames that I can see.  I think that's mainly because the CPU is never running more than about 20% according to the dataref showing on my screen.  Even with 4GB, my limiting factor is VRAM.  Out over the open ocean with few clouds, I can see well over 100fps even with complex Carenado aircraft, but heavy clouds or higher Rendering settings are the main things that pull those framerates down.

The VRAM matters only when using Extreme textures and I use only Very High. But yeah if you have a fast strong GPU then it's preferable to use 4GB and above.

WOW TITAN X 12 GB GIMME THAT

I think my HD 7750 which is a mid range GPU is limiting my CPU so what happens is that the GPU is trying to catch the CPU and can't cope up something like that.

The CPU is a FX 6300 and a pretty good performer. Now I can't be sure till I empty my wallet damn wife is going to kill me.

my VRAM usage is like this :

(THIS IS THROUGH RENDER SETTINGS WHICH SHOWS THE USAGE BUT GPU-Z IS BETTER)

ON HIGH = 700-800 MB

VERY HIGH = 1.2-1.5 GB

EXTREME = 1.8- 3 GB :)

Of course this will also depend on the clouds and stuff but as my settings are maxed except Objects = Mega / HDR = FXAA / Clouds = 10 % / Shadows = static / Water = default /  Texture Resolution = Very High.

So let's see what GPU I choose. Had a chance to get a used R7 260x at almost it's half price but I going off AMD stuff and the card also uses double the power against the GTX750Ti.

Or maybe I won't upgrade at all till 10.40
