Idea for addon developers- payware or freeware!

Featured Replies

I am sure addon developers frequent this forum so I thought I might post an idea - of course milage may vary but I think it would be interesting and possible with the current latest FS...I just got back from another real world flight and noticed that the frequency of fires, particulary SMOKE is higher than one would think (we see the SMOKE not the fire so the effect in FS would be strictly SMOKE). Now this was in the southeast USA not the West, where I know they currently have terrible forest fires. Not the same, just misc. fires that end up putting smoke high into the atmosphere. It gives a feeling of "life" down there and would really add to the realism of FS. Now to make things even neater, couldn't there be an interface that one runs BEFORE starting FS that uses the basic effects files and RANDOMIZES where these fires/SMOKE are at, plop in the BGL's and then go flying? This gives a sense of never seeing the same thing twice, where one wouldn't expect to see it twice. It wouldn't stop at various smoke effects billowing from the ground...why not random SHIPS (that move or don't move doesn't matter to me!), BIRDS, sailboats, think about it. Things that are going on in the real world and yet are feasable to program as BGL's into FS...And for the BEST part- for a sense of challenge and again RANDOMNESS- why not have a NOTAM section in this program interface that randomly chooses various airports around the world and creates some things that CAN happen (I have seen it plenty of times), SUCH as VOR/ILS outages (is it possible to "exclude" an ILS before running FS then "fix" it after closing FS?)...closed runways, middle marker is out, etc, etc... EDIT --> So one would scan the NOTAMS section of this program before booting up FS and going flying to be sure no bad things are at their planned destination..The only REAL tough part (maybe not for the experts?) is determining where land ends and water starts when building the random scenry files/BGL's, i.e so ships aren't on land or fires/smoke effect not in the water. The birds wouldn't matter too much I guess but one wouldn't want them in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!I know there are a couple add ons available for smoke effects and birds, etc but the backbone of this add on would be the interface that randomizes and adds scenery files to FS before starting it.THANKS FOR READING and I hope someone takes this on- I know you would have at least ONE paying customer :)

Thanks- I've seen that but they control it (which isn't bad I guess), and it doesn't have some of the features I mentioned above (at least not that I am aware of), such as the closing of runways or possible ILS outage, etc.

Hi nice ideas! There is a LOT to be desired, and I still do not understand why not ANY developper ever designed a simple gauge for BASIC things like:The engine.. turbines are rated max for 5 minuts.. WHY did no one ever make a gauge that monitors the throttle and N1 and EGT and then pop in a random failure on that mishandled engine? or at LEAST simulate a fire then or something.. should be easy for a developper.Brake overheating.. braking to much and too long? then they catch fire. And so on. just basic things we never have.Johan[A HREF=http://jdserver.no-ip.com]Personal Server[/A]or..http://62.238.33.10A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, AND A LITTLE MORE ACTION PLEASE!

Of course ANYONE interested in doing this (and doing it right) would SURELY benefit from it, financially and in self accomplishment.I wish I had the know how to dit it and I would try it. But like I said before, I leave this to the experts who have so many good things for FS already !

Perhaps some of these things are not able to be done in FS . I do know that there are some a/c that if you mishandle the engines , then they fail. The Widget is an example. I don't know how it is done though. I have always been perturbed that most piston a/c checklists call for fuel pumps to be turned on before start and for primers to be pumped -- but the a/c startup anyway regardless of whether you follow the checklist or not. Certainly more realism in the way in which a/c must be flown would be a good thing. I have always believed that a/c in FS are too easy to fly.Barry

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

(Boy, the original topic sure got buried in a hurry)Okay....all in the name of "realism"......Let's say you overstress an engine and it fails. And, let's say you do everything right and make a successful emergency landing. Sooooo realistic, right? What happens next? Are you, as the pilot, going to be held responsible for your screw up?Therein lies my point. FS offers a great deal of realism for those of us who can find it -- pilot screwups without consequences is NOT one of them - IMHO. In the real world, if you burn up a million dollar turbine engine because you screwed up, you probably won't get a chance to do it again. How about a gauge for pilot getting fired....Cal

I agree- the ideas I had weren't about engines failing, etc although thats a good idea (and some already do that like FSD), my whole point was to inject some sense of life into FS just to give a better "feel there" feeling.Perhaps I should have named the topic "How many would pay for an addon that..."

Yes SIRs..I know, some aircaft have such things, but why dont any developper, freeware or payware, made such an simple monitoring gauge/tool?FS itself provides the data!, so i must be doable.Like the random BGL's in the first post..a bush fire addon will have some perspective, and the possible ILS out of service. CAN YOU LAND MANUAL??I wonder why no developer picked this all up..Johan[A HREF=http://jdserver.no-ip.com]Personal Server[/A]or..http://62.238.33.10A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, AND A LITTLE MORE ACTION PLEASE!
