June 29, 200520 yr Hello,i am looking for a good cessna 172 or 182 payware or freeware add-on. Any suggestions welcome. Can anyone rate the Flight 1 add-ons for cessna?tnxEric
June 29, 200520 yr I don't have the Flight1 Skyhawk (or any other Flight1 product, for that matter), but it's supposed to be very good. The only 182 aside from FS9 defaults available is Carenado's 182RG, which is excellent.
June 30, 200520 yr I have the Flight 1 Cessna 172 and it's tremendous. Flies and looks great. Reviews of the Carenado Cessna 182 all seem to be positive as well.I also have the Dreamfleet Cessna 177. It's getting a bit aged but is still a very nice add-on. Comes in both fixed and retractable gear versions.Jim
June 30, 200520 yr The Flight1 C172 was reviewed by Avsim:http://www.avsim.com/pages/1004/f1c172/f1c172.htmThe Carenado 182RG is brand new and a review will be out shortly. In the meantime, if you have not already, I'd recommend getting the freeware C172 from www.realairsimulations.com. It has a great flight model! Bert
June 30, 200520 yr I have the default Cessna 172 :)With the freeware RealAir tweaks and one of the decent add-on 2D panels, you're up and running. Wizard. The default VC is just fine in my book.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM

It>has a great flight model!Just understand the RealAir 172 is basically the default FS9 Skyhawk with a new flight model - it's an excellent flight model, but don't expect "eye candy" beyond what you're used to from the default 172.
June 30, 200520 yr There are, however, some very nice repaints for the default that make it 100% better looking than the out-of-the-box version. That said, I tend to fly in the cockpit. For what it's worth, my priorities in a model are flight model, panel, plane. I'm always surprised when people pay through the nose for something that just looks good when parked at the gate. Matter of preference, I suppose, horses for courses.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a] _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
June 30, 200520 yr This is an issue that's already been debated at length, and it is indeed a matter of preference. However, I'm not just talking about how nice the plane looks "sitting at the gate" - "eye candy" includes the interior of the plane too. A top-notch virtual cockpit can be a huge part of the "suspension of disbelief" in simming for many people. :)

This is the plane I use to keep my familiarity up when I'm not flying. It's available here in the library. Here is the link:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...04ac&DLID=37254File Description:RealAir's Cessna 172Sp, fully compatible with FS2004 and commissioned by the Aeronautical Industry Training Centre at the Kangan Batman Tafe in Melbourne, for use in their pilot training programme. This new version will now spin and sideslip in FS2004 and contains a custom exterior, enhanced sounds and re-designed flight model. Previous version for Fs2002 exceeded 40,000 downloads worldwide. And this one has over 35,900+ Downloads which must mean something good. :-)And a Very Nice Repaint:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...acrp&DLID=66409Eric, I also have started a thread on quality Freeware offerings in our hobby which others have graciously contributed to as well. After you grab the RealAir FREEWARE 172, take a peek, and see if something else piques your interest.Freeware Thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=260713&page=3I also recommend the Freeware Cirrus SR-20 also available here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...04ac&DLID=66089Regards,JoeGrab My FREEWARE Voice recognition Profiles here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=58334]Cessna 172 Voice Profile[/a][a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fs2004misc&DLID=60740]FSD Avanti Voice Profile[/a].You will need the main FREEWARE Flight Assistant program to use it, get it here:[a href=http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=genutils&DLID=39661]Flight Assistant 2.2[/a] CryptoSonar on Twitch & YouTube.

I'm>always surprised when people pay through the nose for>something that just looks good when parked at the gate. >Matter of preference, I suppose, horses for courses.>In addition to flying real planes & simulated aircraft in the cockpit, I've flown radio control for years.....Therefor, I spend at least 50% outside the cockpit, because I easily can, I guess... :D Since I have quite an interest in seeing how realistic topography becomes with additional scenery downloads, I find the "spot views" to be more realistic than the tunnel vision views offered by just one monitor. However, I've often used the RealAir addition to the default 172, too, and really don't object to the slightly modified default VC panel. For me, I want the flight model, panel, and plane to have nearly even percentages in design , or I usually don't bother.L.Adamson
June 30, 200520 yr Flight 1's Cessna 172, Dreamfleets Cessna 177, Carenado's Cessna 182RG and Cessna 210. All are very good! :DKev
June 30, 200520 yr Author Still think the Flight1 C172R is one of the best GA singles around. IF, you open the aircraft.cfg and set elevator_trim_effectiveness to 0.25 instead of 1.0. Otherwise it's impossible to hand-fly. It's hard to beat for 2D panel clarity if that's your thing. The Carenado C182RG comes with a more realistic VC IMO. Not a huge fan of the Carenado C210, mostly because of the sounds and because you feel like you're in a submariine when flying from the VC due to the poor visibility. The DF C177 provides excellent visiblity but the VC and exteriors look a bit dated. So in this order:1. Flight1 C172R2. Carenado C182RG3. DF C1774. Carenado C210 -
June 30, 200520 yr thanks alot for all your comments .. havin a look at Real Air 172 right now and was already interested in flight 1 s versioneric
June 30, 200520 yr one more thing...altough i like a good lookin plane, i m more interested in its realistic behaviour and i see the RealAir even simulates sideslips and spin, and that sounds goodEric
July 1, 200520 yr Author If you can live with default sounds and visuals, the RealAir version is very good, and cheap :DWhy not use the freeware Realair 172 for "serious" flying and the Carenado C182RG (which does come with a good flight model BTW) for your eyecandy needs :) -
