Small Issue...Plane lists left while flying

Featured Replies

Hi-

Had this plane for about a week. I am really getting the hang of it, and can do a flight startup to shutdown with out too much trouble. However, I have noticed that flying at any level, when the autopilot is on, the plane tilts or lists to the left. This is more of a case of OCD ( :-) ) than anything, but can anyone tell me why this is? I imagine its a weight imbalance but I havent a clue.

I dont have the Q400 but i would check the fuel in the wings first. Is it the case when you in manual flight or after A/P disconnect? Maybe it is an out of trim situation.

I would bet it is plane out of trim. This plane needs to be retrimmed on speed or power change.

I have noticed that flying at any level, when the autopilot is on, the plane tilts or lists to the left.

This isn't connected to trim as in elevator trim but is is connected to your Rudder trim.  To make the Q400 more realistic, Majestic modelled prop forces beyond what most other addons offer.   What you need to do is click on the rudder trim knob on the pedestal, until the plane loses this banking angle, and straightens out.

Alternatively, of you're not keen on the effect, you can browse to, and open the following file:-

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\mjc8q400\ini\mjc84.ini

......and then change this section :-

YAW_DUE_TO_PROPWASH =1.0

 to :-

YAW_DUE_TO_PROPWASH =0.0

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I know it is not fuel related; I transfer the fuel during flight to perfectly balanced, and even a little more on the other side. I'll try the rudder trim; didn't know you could use it while the autopilot is on.

Yes, you absolutely can.

There's a saying among real world Q400 drivers - the Yaw Damper button is only good for providing extra panel lighting.   :smile:

Hahaha very nice :smile:

Just tried it and look at that! We are on the straight and level (flight) path again. This is such a fun plane, well worth the money.

Glad you got it sorted.  All part of the learning curve with this fantastic plane. :smile:

I dial in about 3 degrees of right rudder trim before take off. Plane flies as straight as an arrow.

The autopilot in the Q400 is only a 2 axis autopilot... i.e. Elevator and Aileron...

So that rudder still needs a pilot to control it ;)

And as has been mentioned, every power change, you'll need new trim... exactly like the real thing.
