November 30, 200520 yr Hi Milton, A couple of questions regarding the D18; In the Cargo version, what is the physical layout of the cabin, as far as loading pax/payload? There's about 3 rows of pax seating shown in the fuel/payload screen, but I don't see anything more than the pilot/co-pilot seats in the actual cabin. The fuel guage, on the panel(3 tanks), doesn't seem to bear a whole lot on the actual fuel in the Fuel/Payload screen (5 tanks). Which should I watch to avoid a premature shutdown? LOL! I've also noticed that one engine seems to draw more fuel, causing a load imbalance during a flight. Once the Dash 7 is done, I'll have 'em all! Nice work gang! Vic Victor Buck
November 30, 200520 yr Hi Vic,You might have better luck posting this as a new question rather than resurrecting a four month post that wasn't really related to your questions.Just a thought to help you out :-wave Dr Zane Gard Sr Staff Reviewer AVSIM Private Pilot ASEL since 1986 IFR 2010 AOPA 00915027 American Mensa 100314888
November 30, 200520 yr You may be right. I did drop Milton a line asking him to take a look so I'll give it a day. I didn't even think to look at the date...just did a search for "D18" and grabbed the most fitting result. Vic Victor Buck
December 1, 200520 yr Vic,The aircraft.cfg is used for both the passenger and cargo versions. The description at the end of the station load parameter is simply generic to mean whatever you wish, p=passenger seat or P=cargo Position. You can change as you like or create a separate aircraft folder for the cargo version. As for the engines consuming different fuel amounts, that will happen if you do not have both engines' prop condition and throttle settings identical. i.e. if you are adjusting each engine manually, it is virtually impossible without digital gauges to set them identically. It's up to you to watch the fuel and switch accordingly. As for the tanks, unless otherwise programmed, FS fuel feeds from the outer-most tanks first (Aux) then the Left/Right Mains, then center1.In consulting with Scott on your question, he says: "Center tank seems to read Wrong gallons. Right and Left tanks read main and aux tanks total! But as long as Front tanks are selected (main tanks), the aircraft seems to draw from the aux first, then the mains." He believes the tooltip is displaying incorrect gallons.Hope this helps.
December 2, 200520 yr Hi, Milton. I have thought about doing just that...creating a seperate aircraft folder...for the cargo version and adjusting the .cfg to show only the pilots and cargo stations. I was worried about how removing the other pax stations might affect balance since I'm not too sure how to read the positioning of each station and would not feel comfortable doing so without reading up more. I have flown several flights since the first one and have not had the fuel "imbalance" again...I must have not been paying close attention. So, if I don't touch the fuel selectors, after creating a flight, FS will do it's "auto" thing with fuel usage, but if I do move them, it becomes my job...if I understand you correctly? Thanks for the reply, Milton, that clears things up for me. Vic Victor Buck
December 2, 200520 yr Off Topic, but...For those who have not yet flown the Beech D18S:This is simply a wonderful aircraft. The period "feel" of the piece takes you back a generation (or two). And the VC captures the soul.A stunner.Best,Mike --Mike MacKuen
December 2, 200520 yr Absolutely! She just "feels" right! There was apilot who ran as a feeder for UPS while I worked at TUL that flew an old Expeditor. The first time I saw it was when I was the marshaller for that early morning. It was foggy, vis maybe a mile, and cold. The thing didn't want to start, and it was the muttering of the pilot that got my attention. Just as I had led out the last Caravan, there stood this Beech. It was a moment I'll never forget. Just that old Beech all alone on the ramp with the pilot muttering something about the starter, twisting the left prop around and around, apparently trying to line up the teeth on the starter? I dunno. As I made my way over to marshal it out, I was maybe 20 feet behind the left wing as the ol' engine finally kicked over and started. That was perhaps the single finest moment in my life at Tulsa International. Beautiful.Set real world weather at your smallest (or only ;)) hometown airport and load up the 18 there. Switch to outside view, then crank over an engine. The effect cannot ever match real life, but Milton and team have, to the extents possible in FS, nailed it. Truly awesome.Sorry for the already longish read, but on a side note, the last time I saw that old Beech I actually was loading it. Inside it's very utilitarian cabin was a hole, approximately .50 caliber in diameter, in the bulkhead at the rear. Seeing it's odd angle I traced it down and found a hole in the side of the fuse, with a patch covering the outside. I was stunned. When I looked up, the pilot was grinning. Dunno if the ol' bird got the hole in the war or later, but it just seemed to belong there.. http://home.earthlink.net/~dawgfighter/sit...es/swvasig1.gif-Jeremy BurchSWVA4806 http://www.virtualswa.com/home.phpThe Ozark Dogfighter http://forums.avsim.net/images/wedge.gifHappy Flying!
