A product I would really like to have - 3d cockpit for PSX...

Featured Replies

I used XView to allow me to have X-Plane 10 as a scenery viewer for Aerowinx PSX ( the only airline simulation I use these days... actually the only civil flight simulation I use... ). This is a great application, but it has it's limitations, one of them being that you can't really interact with PSX from the X-Plane 10 cockpit.

Since real mokup cockpits can be built to interact with PSX, I believe that if some developer decided to create a PSX-dedicated 744 fleet, for X-Plane 10, with a 3d cockpit of the higher grade, it could be used to interact with every system in PSX.

I guess it would be a easier task in X-Plane 10, given the burden that clickspots represent for FSX / P3D and would make easier, for instance, the implementation of the clickable circuit breaker panels possible, or that particular area could be left for PSX, with screens dedicated to it...

Anyway, it looks to me that for simmers with a lot of investment on either platform, including the use of TIR 5, etc..., it would be great to have such an interactive 3d virtual cockpit for PSX.

P.S.: The abbreviation of the message in the forums subject listing looks like ... sorry for that

@Chris:

I really don't think so :-/

That's why I totally gave up on anything FSX or XP10 native. For props and helicopters I use DCS World, for an airliner, PSX.  BTW, since you're apparently also a glider man, for gliders, I really prefer to fly for real, but I am placing big expectations in Condor v2 :-)

It was more wishful thinking and hoping pmdg hurry up. In xplane they seem to be saying the systems modelling is more complete and that they dont have to worry about that fsx/prepar3d limitations hence the comment. Hoping for a more psx like experience all be it with a vc.

Chris

I loved my old PS1 sim. Had much more time on my hands these days. Planing, pre flight preparation, start up, flying for 4,5 hours, sometimes 9 or 10, the best sim it was. Today, after a hard day at work I'm happy to take the B200 for a one hour flight and I don't mind if the engines are running when I board it.

An enterprising developer I'd imagine could create one :-). Essentially just using PSX as an external flight engine and all cockpit controls etc... controlled by datarefs.

Now if someone wants to give me a free version of PSX and also a ready made 3D model of the cockpit, I would happily do the rest ;-).

Anyway, HH jst made clear it would not be possible, because the internal variable would not allow for proper EICAS for instance to be set by the satellite 744 running in X-Plane 10.

Even the cleint mode of PSX that connects to the main server in a netweorked setup, runs it's own FDM, for interpolation of data sent from the server, and that is not open to the world...

So, I'll stay with PSX, standalone, because nor X-Plane 10 nor FSX:SE gave me the required smoothness and compatibility between what is being flown in PSX and what is seen in the visuals generator...

IMHO PSX stand alone does not need more than it comes with. It's a system and procedure SIM and you really take the pilots seats. the fun is what you do, not how you see it. At least it was like that with good old PS1.

+1 Ralf!

And that's how I actually use it these days :-)
