Big performance gain

Featured Replies

Ive spent the last 2 weeks trouble shooting and closely monitoring my GPU GTX 560TI in GPU-Z as its been maxing out at 99% pretty much non stop especially with PMDG and ORBX and in DCS and today I stumbled across a thread over at DCS that suggests to go into Nvidea control panel and then to manage 3d settings and switch multiple display performance mode to "single display performance mode" and boom a 30-40% drop in my GPU load ! Im really excited about that.

Just thought it may be worth passing on in case it helps anyone else

Also disable threaded optimization and see if you can get additional gain from that...

Yes I did that as well and its like a I have a brand new GPU now and whilst the GTX 560TI is an ageing card it still should be able to run FSX-SE  pretty easily and thats now the case again

Not denying that something has changed with your setup but his setting is supposed to be for OpenGL applications only and should have no effect on DCS or FSX which are both DirectX games.

Thanks for pointing that out and take your word for it as I don't know much about the differences. I do know that there are others who did see a strong improvement and its what drew me in and mine was easy to see as I was always at 99% until I switched to single screen.

But its also possible I may have tweaked something just prior and that's what did it but that doesn't explain how the others saw an improvement as well, but hey even if its placebo I will take it as Im back in the game again !

Yes I'm a big placebo fan myself.  :)

On it's own it could argue that a drop in video card usage was a drop in performance with the card not being used to it's full potential.

Are you seeing an increase in FPS or smoothness?

Since switching to unlimited frames I no longer check FPS but its the smoothness in both sims thats improved and I just enable DSR as well as I was a bit skeptical but Im a convert now, simply amazed at the clarity
