July 26, 200520 yr Folks,It just caught my attention that one is able to review basically entire flight using instant reply option. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking, but this means recording process is taking place throughout the entire flight.I would imagine this is taking quite a heavy toll on the sim performance, doesn't it?If you think disabling this option could have positive impact on the FS9 performance please give your feedback here.ThanksDom
July 26, 200520 yr I agree with your theory, but I don't have the foggiest idea of how to do it, if you even could.Anyone?bt
July 26, 200520 yr Moderator No, it is not "recording" in the sense you imagine. It is merely recording datum points in an ASCII text file. The "instant replay" simply takes that datum and "re-creates" the last XX seconds of flight.Have you noticed that there is no AI in the replay, and no ATC chatter? Fr. July 26, 200520 yr Author Indeed so, no AI traffic. Are you saying that there should be no impact on performance then?Question is though, if it writes whatever then it takes a bit of proc power. Only, it could be marginally minimal so not really worth looking into.ThanksDom
July 27, 200520 yr Moderator >Indeed so, no AI traffic.>Are you saying that there should be no impact on performance>then?Whatever fraction of CPU and bus time it might take is truly inconsequential, and likely too miniscule to even measure. :) Fr. July 27, 200520 yr It would also appear that the recording of these data points is a low priority in the scheme of things, as the replay is often (but not always) jumpy at points where the system was loaded up on other things...like at the last few moments before touching down. My guess is that the sim sacrifices or at least momentarily delays this function when trying to maintain frame rates.Your point is definitely logical though.Jordan Moore
