I guess I'm late on this one...

After uninstalling UT USA and going back to USA Roads I tried playing around with the Traffic density setting. I turned the setting down to 15% from 45% and bow did that increase my framerates in large cities. What's interesting is I still have a decent amount of traffic in the skies and on the ground minus the performance impact. I know this has been discussed before but I never tried it thinking I would have little or no AI traffic. Using Flight1' Ultimate Traffic together with the freeware GA Traffic program gives me a decent about of traffic around me even with a setting 15%.Now I'm wondering what the traffic density setting actually does since it doesn't totally do away with AI Traffic (unless it's set totally at 0%)??? Does it control AI much like the viewable distance cloud can be displayed??? What I mean by that is instead of generating traffic as far out as Boston (from say KLGA), with a lower setting the computer only manipulates traffic only about 50 miles from your aircraft. I'm late I know but it's cool to have the performance boost over large cities by turning this setting down. I have a fare amount of traffic and don't have near the stutters or time consuming texture loading I used to have... :7

Hi I use Ultimate Traffic and I love it. But only recently did I get into the whole AI modeling thing. And I've learned a lot. You might be surprised how "not so good" are the models that came with UT. They not only look bad but also are a major drag on performance. Take a look at www.ai-aardvark.com, where you'll see much better AI models and learn a lot about how AI models are closely related to FS performance.I still use and like Ultimate Traffic but I've been working on replacing their models with better ones. They are fantastic looking and much less demanding at the same time.Re you questions I don't think changing Traffic percentage affect the radius in which FS general traffic around you. And as I said there are other (and better?) ways of gaining performance back from AI traffic than simple tuning down the density.Jason

The percentage setting in FS does not control the distance at wich AI traffic is 'clipped' as far as I know. It's been a while since I edited traffic, but if I remember correctly, it works like this:In the AI flightplans there is a percentage setting above which that particular flight will not appear; so actually, when you set the slider at 50%, you may still have more than half the 100% traffic left.It all depends on how these percentages have been defined at the flightplan level in the traffic bgl's you're using. If all the flights have been set to 100% you should see no change at all!Best,Martijn

Well probably you have a high end machine. But as far as the look goes, no matter how good the machine is, you just can't have as good looking AI aircrafts using UT models comparing to the later generation ones. Take a look:http://forums.ai-aardvark.com/showthread.php?t=2980

Just a slight correction, if the flight plans have 100% that means you need to set your slider to 100% to get that plan to display in the game. Many plans that are coming out have 1% in them which is the best if you want to still get a good variety of traffic with a lower slider. Personally, I use nothing less than 100%. I'm too much of a traffic junky

Oops, yep, should have said "If all the flights have been set to 1%".
