  1. To begin with, he left all the realism sliders at 0...

I don't think the release date for the full sim is set in stone. They postponed the release of Flight School too, and I think that's a good sign. I do agree that it is likely there will be 'a long progression' after that, as in all sims. The task of simulating all the world, weather and all the different aircraft from microlights to airliners and helicopters is so monumental, that a single company cannot do it all. That is likely to be the big question: how add-on/plug-in/mod friendly will the new sim be?

I´m glad I purchased it even though I´ve been FS-ing for years. I think it looks very promising. Sure, there are lots of graphical glitches (dark moon in bright sky, cockpit shadows disconnected from struts, the sharp horizon, ugly clouds) but there´s plenty of time to sort these out for the full sim. This version is already much smoother than the alpha that was released only a few weeks ago, they've made huge strides on that! The big thing is 64-bit, of course. They've got their priorities right I think: now they can start expanding and improving the graphics engine with a lot more resource headroom. It's a lot of simulator for the price if you're new to flight simming-the target audience.
  4. WXR on EFIS control panel on? Martijn Pleines
  5. I was interested in Rome II as well, but after pre-ordering SimCity earlier this year, I decided to not take the chance this time around...glad I held off... But I will be keeping my eyes on Rome II and may purchase once it has been fixed. I'm still not sure about some of the design changes though (more 'focused' gameplay with fewer armies, less political influence).
  6. Of course! When it's ready, you can go and simply pick a date that's not in this list! Martijn Pleines
  7. Wow, funny this topic should turn up just as I was planning to try out a hold procedure this morning!I went ahead and set up a hold that would require a parallel entry-with the waypoint at the far side of the racetrack as viewed from the approaching aircraft, and the turn direction contrary to the 'natural' direction for entering the hold...so the A/C would have to fly over the waypoint and then outside of and parallel to the inbound leg of the racetrack, in the opposite direction, and then perform a ~225 degree turn into the inbound leg, entering the hold in a kind of figure-eight pattern. Congrats PMDG, immaculate! The NGX performed the maneuvre by the book (I used the Bulfer FMC guide - but I remember reading a german NGX review a week or two ago that mentioned holds were not flown correctly - however, judging from this test, probably the most difficult scenario, that is not true-the reviewers may have used an earlier version though, mine is hotfix 3) - great! Martijn
  8. Great! I just received my download link and activation code!Downloading now... Through all the hassle that you have to put up with, still a fast service! Thank you very much PMDG crew!
  9. I submitted a ticket to the billing/account department (since it's a problem with delivery-no download link-, not the A/C itself). I assume that's OK too (will it reach Paul as well) ? Thanks,Martijn
  10. Never mind where the attack came from....what's more worrying with all these increasing attacks and other hacker activities the world wide web may cease to be viable as a commercial platform within a year or so - just what we needed in a world economy that's near collapse already! Martijn
  11. Store disconnected completely again I suppose...can't even log into my account at the moment... Martijn Edit: was able to login, the system reloaded my shopping cart -I cleared it so as not to place a second order- but no NGX in 'previous orders'...
  12. All I got is the 'PMDG Customer receipt/Purchase confirmation' with order and customer ##; I added those in the email report from the database connection problem page...no download-link yet though. Martijn Pleines
  13. Oh, it's been quite a useful day for me actually. Did all sorts of stuff that one can kick off and then walk away from...A couple of days ago one of my hard drives started to fail so I backed up its contents. Today its replacement arrived and I have been restoring and shunting files around. Dusted out the case and cleaned the filters while replacing the drive. Defragged the system and FS partitions too...and also all kinds of other household chores. And oh yeah, followed the PMDG commerce pages, Facebook, and forums every once in a while...But now it's time for sleep... Martijn
  14. I think it would really help AVSIM if PMDG would publish an estimated release target time - with the usual caveats of course. The teasing was fun for a while but now it's affecting users of the other AVSIM forums as well. Martijn
  15. It was fun for a while but the process seems to have stalled now...no change for quite a while...hope I'm wrong though. Martijn
  16. Ha, yeah that would be something, everybody watching Facebook like a hawk and meanwhile the NGX quietly released on the PMDG site... Martijn
  17. I'm definitely not going to buy this. Has to be something seriously wrong with the flight model if it keeps hovering just above the runway for hours... ;-p Martijn
  18. Hmmm....maybe they could do a level-d sim exterior? That would certainly be something different...a sim within a sim... Just kidding, of course! Would it be actually possible to make something in FSX that stays put in the external views, but moves through the flightsim-world in the interior views? Martijn
  19. Thank you very much Robert, that's a great release-schedule and pricing plan...I think most of us will feel that august 4 (or there-abouts) will be a bit like their own birthday as well!Martijn
  20. Nitpicking? Naaaah not at all ;-)btw did you notice that the last airliner.net shot was taken in a...simulator?Martijn Pleines
  21. Spaceship control rooms and command centers always looked so clean, bright and smart in the movies and TV series...then Alien came along with that grimy, battered lived-in look of Nostramus...a damp, filthy workhorse freighter...and that was so cool, it suddenly made all those other movies look less realistic...
  22. I think the kid will be O.K.There's a bit of a haze at the airport, but not enough for the crew to activate the wipers...
  23. Ran the test and Meals is straight ahead on ND, 135 degrees on both ND and FMC, so looks OK.Same file size and date/time.WinXP PRO SP2 EN, FSX+Acceleration, latest updates and drivers.C2D 6600 @ 3.24, 2Gb DDR2, Ati X1950XTX (no OC), Cat 8.4Martijn
  24. If it really says '/3G' in your boot.ini, try '/3GB'...Martijn
  25. Wow, I never knew he's a painter, and those are wonderful paintings-he's a great colorist! All the best, from me too!Martijn
