First Icy Runway Landing of the Season

Featured Replies

Performed my first landing the other day on an icy runway with a crosswind. Very Challenging to say the least!

And, someone just happened to have a camera handy!

Good Grief!!!

Cheers,

Looks like a nice recovery!

I can see that you still have your nose  pointed down the runway, all lift devices have been retracted, and it looks like the anti-skid system is starting to take hold.  Also noticed that you don't seem too panicked.  Hang in there!

Thanks, Andrew. This is a shot I found on the net. The photographer was at the right place at the right time!

When I first saw this photo, it reminded me of how tricky it can be landing or taking off from an icy runway with crosswinds. Thank goodness for independently operating thrust reversers!

The expression can be seen on many a real world pilot's face during such an event!

Chuck's narrative is OUTSTANDING! His narrative really captures the moment!

Cheers,

Jim
