P3D and 2nd monitor

P3D in the settings should show you a range of resolutions for your card. Pick the right one in the sim. If you change in manually in the cfg, it will reset to what you have selected in the sim settings. Also be sure you are selecting the correct monitor when you change the resolution in the sim.

You are always best setting p3d to your monitor's native resolution.

To save time -  what is the native resolution of your monitor?

In P3D under display settings - under resolution for specific monitor - what are the resolutions showing in the drop down box?

If one matches your monitor - select it.

Hi VIC in P3D settings they only show higher resolutions and my LCD doesn't switch on if i use them on my LCD.

On desktop righy click And select screen resolutions - recommended 720x1280 but i use one up - 768x1024

P3D settings - 1024x1280x32, 1024x1600x32, 1050x1680x32, 1080x1920x32

As you can see thats only the resolutions P3D offer in settings! I don't why its not showing the one i actually selected for my monitor.

I'm thinking of getting HDMI to DVI D adapter will that work?

I don't believe the adapter will work but you can try.

Try going into the Nvidia control panel and creating a CUSTOM resolution and saving it. It should then be available in P3D.

I am not talking about right click desktop and change there, you must use the Nvidia control panel to create a custom set.

Open NVCP

select change resolution

click customize

if the resolution you ant is not displayed click create custom resolution.

save it

Nope that didn't work! Not even listed in P3D

Looks like you are not the only one:

It could be a problem with P3D handling the vertical orientation of the monitor at that small resolution.

As an experiment try setting it up in Windows and P3D as Landscape orientated and see what happens.

When you went into the NVIDIA CONTROL panel - were you able to set and SAVE a custom resolution?

So i'm not the only one :) hope we can fix it or P3D

Yeh vic i set apply and nothing happens in P3D. In custom resolution it said i've already got that resolution setup.

My DVI I connection is perfect showing all resolutions but i use that port for my VGA CDU screen for my 737

ok, so it DOES show in the custom resolution of the Nvidia Control Panel but does NOT show up in the P3D selection drop down, even AFTER you manually change it in the prepar3d.cfg file and then start P3D?

Now that is strange. P3D, like FSX just reads the available resolutions from the DirectX enumeration which relates to the driver which you changed in the NVCP. Perhaps they (LM) have put a restriction on lower resolution.

Strange.

Not sure vic what LM has been upto. I've tried changing it manually but it reverts back to a higher resolution my monitor can handle.

Unless you can get the resolution to show in the P3D setting drop down, it will not stay. USUALLLY, you can create a custom resolution in NVCP and save it. This lets the driver *see* it and it then *should* get loaded into the available resolution list and be selectable from within P3D. On some occasions, if it does NOT show in the list, you can set it manually in prepar3d.cfg file and THEN it will show in the list in the future.

I will change it once more in the cfg and start P3D and let you know if its in the menu

Even in my CFG it says for my LCD - 1024x1280x32 but it should be 768x1024
