Crosswind landing/takeoffs

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with Q400 in situations as per topic title.

Usually during crosswind I end up my takeoff /landing on the grass.

There is no way that full rudder deflection + 8deg tiller will keep this thing on the runway.

Any hints would be appreciated.

Beardyman-

During takeoff try the following - Set the rudder trim about 3 - 4 deg to the right, once you have lined up put the aileron into the wind (e.g. if the wind is coming from the right, turn the yoke to the right, apply any further rudder input as required manually during the takeoff roll and as you speed increases slowly bring the ailerons back towards (but not completely) neutral. The Dash is what we call a conventional prop aircraft (Both props turn the same direction so at high power the wash from the props causes a yaw, any excessive trim will cause you problems later, also the tiller becomes ineffective above certain speeds).

As for the landing, again make full use of putting the aileron into the wind, the rudder trim is up to you depending on what power is needed during the final approach, this will help to increase the controls until the till becomes effective, also try to touch down on the downwind main gear, this again will help you much more in keeping the aircraft under control just after touchdown.

I have already disabled prop wash - somehow annoying effect.

This bird is really challenging, need more practice, as i saw YouTube that Q400 is able to handle even strong crosswind landings pretty well.

Dont forget, this aircraft uses a external flight dynamics engine, the one in MSFS is completely unrealistic so MJC bypassed this to give more accurate effects during the flight

8deg tiller ? I think the problem is there. Tiller must be = zero and then you make correction only with rudder for take off.
