Are the rain effects scenery dependent?

Featured Replies

Hi!

I've just noticed that the rain (wheel and engine spray) effects for my level-d 767 don't appear in FSDreamteam's Dallas Fort-Worth scenery. If I move the aircraft to Miami (default scenery) or Montevideo (LatinVFR) the effects show. Is this expected? This scenery has taxi bridges. Perhaps somehow the airport is elevated and effects are showing but hidden from view bellow ground?

This is not a big issue but I am curious none the less.

Thanks!

BTW, after reinstalling my Level-D, the only way I could make PrecipitFX reinstall into the aircraft.cfg was by adding not only [EFFECTS] to it (the file doesn't have this entry by default) but also what comes next (I used the entry from the Microsoft boeing 737):

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_spray
dirt=fx_tchdrt
concrete=fx_sparks
touchdown=fx_tchdwn, 1

Only after adding this was the PrecipitFX installer able to install its own effects.

PS

The new effects are fantastic. I never get tired of looking at them.

Hi Alex,

The Level-D is an aircraft dating back to FS2004 and converted to FSX in a non-standardized way. The effects section is a default section for any FSX/P3D aircraft and is required for custom effects to show. Adding the Effects section is indeed the good step to making it work.

For the Scenery-related issue:

Some scenery developers will generate taxiways, aprons and other ground polys using various techniques. Some of those techniques may cause the effects to render under those custom elements. This is a known issue on our end, and probably by the developers themselves. I personally haven't tried it on P3D but from what I have seen while working in other areas of the sim, it might be fixed in P3D and the issue would be specific to FSX. We haven't yet figured out how to overcome this issue on our side but be sure that if we find something, we'll make it available to you guys.

It's still not fixed in P3D v3 AFAIK. And I really hope you guys find a fix for this, as I love this add-on, it really makes things a bit more realistic.
