September 12, 200520 yr Just bought Ultimate Terrain, and am awaiting the release of BEV. Have FS Genesis USA Landclass, and after a weekend of tweaking video card, FS9 config, and defragging, I'm still getting sloooooooow texture re-draws. Have a Dell 2.9 Pentium 4, 1024 Ram, 6800 NVidia 256 card, and I'm not pleased with the re-draws. Any suggestions, or should I take my message to "their" forum. I'm always pleased with AVSIM members responses, though, and I usually find my solutions here. Look forward to your advice.
September 12, 200520 yr Commercial Member UT doesn't do anything to your textures - really don't understand how it could cause slow redraw. What's your TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT set to in FS9.cfg? Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
September 12, 200520 yr The UT forum has very concrete advice on this subject. See http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_post...?TID=12273&PN=1 and scroll down to "Blurry Terrain Textures (Thanks Cole, Jim, and Holger)."
September 13, 200520 yr Author Checked that....read it and really didn't find anything there that helped load textures any faster. I tried changing my fsconfig several times per the forum threads, but nothing really worked.
September 13, 200520 yr Author I changed my Texture bandwidth Mult to 400! What do you think it should be?
September 13, 200520 yr I have been having the same problem sice UT. I have played with the bandwith and other things...Still having problems....Texture re-draw is real slooooooooooooooow! My next step is to remove UT...I hope I don't have to go that far.......Paul
September 13, 200520 yr If you haven't already tried it, shut off residential streets in the UT config utility. It actually looks a lot better without them. Also turn off the residential lighting. I think the lighting is actually the culprit with lower fps as FS9 sees each one as an object to be drawn. It will only effect urban areas, it will not decrease the number of roads in rural areas. Give it a try! UT is really worth keeping, it makes a huge improvement in the look of FS9.Jim
September 14, 200520 yr Author Thanks for all the advice. Probably though, I explained it a little incorrectly. It's not really Texture redraw problem AS MUCH as it is the dreaded "BLURRIES" which seem to take a lot of time to clear up. I know the UT site talks about the blurries but their suggestions do not work. Thanks again for any contributions to this problem.
September 14, 200520 yr Have your tried turning off the enhanced residential as suggested? It can make a difference.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
September 14, 200520 yr Try a couple of quick fixes:Reset your Terrain Mesh Complexity - 70 or less, anything below 90 really helps. I have never seen areal change in the FS9 graphics by lowering this option.Autogen Density - NormalLower your Special Effects DetailTerrain Detail and Water Effect - Mid PointExtended Terrain Textures - Only at high levels and over WaterUnless it real important to you - turn off reflectionsUse the FS9 full screen optionReduce sight and cloud draw distances (big hitter)Lower 3-D Cloud Percentage - Heavy Cloud Cover = much lower FPSAnti-Aliasing - Turn off on FS9, and set under your monitor optionsIf you do not fly using the VC, turn it off (big FPS hitter)Use the Bilinear Filtering optionUnder the UTUSA Configuration Manager, Turn off Flatten Major Roads, Tunnel roads and Tunnel Lighting.Lastly, Within these forums there are a large number of discussions that recommend FS9 Configuration file settings, review them. All of these notes/ideas can be found at the UTUSA Forum Page.Tom
September 15, 200520 yr Author WOW...I can honestly say that the "Residential streets and lights" toggle DOES make a difference! Much smoother, and much more flyable. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try it at night now, since I've only tried it during the day. We'll see.........but it does seem to play a significant role. Thanks
