vPilot+P3D errors

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend perhaps a better utility to access VATSIM instead of vPilot? For some reason almost every flight cannot get off the gate because either the weather engine doesn't work (via ASN) or the multiplayer creates some coding error.....

I'm at a loss for this as I am using VATSIM to re-fresh myself on IFR procedures before I go for my IPC next month. I know it seems vague so here are the details:

P3d v2.5/windows 7 are the platforms.

PMDG777 (primary toy) creates these child windows that fail to create

live weather updates to practice more realistic ILS approaches fail to load. therefore ASN becomes useless and doesn't live update or track

I get a lengthy coding error which I dare not copy/paste here, but its always CTD.

any suggestions??

Thank you,

VPilot is the best pilot client available for P3D and the developer is very responsive on the VATSIM forums.

If you're getting weather failures and P3D is crashing, I think there's something wrong with your setup that needs to be addressed. The typical errors I see reported from VPilot is where the sim crashes, not the other way around.

I strongly suggest you try Pilotedge. It just works every time.

It is 100% realistic usually controlled by experienced real world ATC people. And even better there is a two week free trial.

Cheers.

vPilot seems easy to use, however after years of experience working with this problem  I can tell that it's full of crap bugs: horrible model matching accuracy, frequent disconnection etc.

Squawkbox is much better in terms of stability but it's just too old.

So the conclusion is that there's no good client for VATSIM.

How are either the fault of VPilot?

If your network stack says that a TCP connection has been dropped, it's dropped. Model matching depends a great deal on what other people select on their end - if they put in bad data, how can VPilot or any other client "fix" it?

Cheers!

I experience none of that. Model matching is controlled by you having the right model sets and by other users putting in the correct info regarding their aircraft. I have no disconnection problems at all. This client is strongly supported by it's developer. He is already testing a new version.

I downloaded all model matching rules from the vPilot so maybe the problem is in the matching rules.

With Squawkbox I didn't experience disconnection at all but with vPilot the disconnection is disturbing.

Hopefully development of vPilot will continue and improve.

Downloading the model matching rules doesn't solve your issue. You actually have to have those model sets installed on your sim. The disconnection issue is on your end. If you check the VPilot forum on the VATSIM forum you can get support. I haven't read people having disconnection issues. This software is the best I have had in my 13 years flying on VATSIM. You clearly haven't read the instructions.

Of course I have the model sets installed in my computer......it's the problem of the model matching rules which failed to match the model sets to the VATSIM traffics correctly.

Why are you 100% sure that the disconnection problem is at my end? I have examined all rules and settings on my firewall, router and the computer which vPilot runs on before making such claim.

You are saying that you didn;t ever heard about people having disconnecting issue with vPilot? Just Google it. The issue is that a lot of the threads regarding vPilot disconnection are not answered whatsoever......I call this "good support".

If I haven;t read the manual of vPilot, then I would be surprised that I intermittently could complete flights with this client. What do you tell if a software works intermittently from a software engineering point of view?

you may not have experienced any problem with vPilot but I am sure that not all people got no problem with this software. You having no problem doesn;t mean that this software is perfect. You like this software very much doesn't mean that this software doesn;t have room for improvement.

it would be great if you could start listening to others and be less self-absorbing.

I am listening. You said you downloaded "All the model set rules". You don't need them all. If you go to the VATSIM forum for VPilot you will get better answers and you will get actual support. The developer answers questions and works with users to resolve issues. I don't know where people are asking otherwise. My opinion on why I see it on your end is based on the fact I read his forum and see no real issues with disconnects. The other threads you read weren't answered because they weren't in the right place to get  "good support". That includes this forum.
