How can I change a flight plan with the extension .PLN to a file which the CDU understands

and accepts ?

 

I made flight plans using PFPX and always end up with .PLN

I also noticed that those file ( .PLN ) can be opened using Notepad

It very much depends on the CDU. Most will not accept FS flight plan files, regardless of extension. Doesn't PFPX allow you to export various formats?

PFPX can export into numerous other formats, including PMDG, Aerosoft Airbus, native FSX, ASN, Aivlasoft, etc.
