A36 v Baron 58

Featured Replies

So I have the Dreamfleet A36 and love it. Perfect airplane for when I feel like flying something light.Seems the Baron is another great add-on, but I can't bring myself to buying it since I don't know the difference between the 2. Can someone fill me in? Thanks

Hello,I have both and I must say that Baron is simply PERFECT. Cannot complain about anything. While it's similar to the A36 from many sides, it's still a rather different aircraft with noticeably higher cruise speed, engine power and different flight dynamics. I have flown the aircraft in VATSIM now for about 10 hours in total and I'm still very impressed on its realism. Landing the aircraft smoothly demands some training and with heavy aircraft I once even got a tailstrike as it tends to fall quickly when you cut the engine power and with Bonanza I could take the engine to idle a lot earlier than with the Baron.Another difference between Bonanza and Baron is that while Bonanza is not meant to fly into icing conditions, Baron can do it and hence is equipped with many de-icing systems like surface de-ice boots, prop heating, stall warning heating, window heat etc. So Baron is much more close to the larger airplanes with its advanced capabilities. It would be even more cool if it was the BE58TC version for cruising on higher altitudes, but so far I've tried to cruise on 8500 feet and it was quite okay except that the throttle had to be max in order to get a reasonable manifold pressure. As there are often pretty strong winds up there, it may not be very smart to take so high altitude with this airplane as the indicated airspeed is lower on 8500 feet and with headwind the groundspeed may come lower than you would get on 4000 feet.

Just thought I'd pipe in and let you know the certified service ceiling for the Baron 58 is over 20,000 feet! I have made flights using FL160-FL180 without difficulty in the normally aspirated Baron. To get that high will take some patience as the climb rate will degrade noticeably above 10,000 feet and once cruising your indicated airspeed will not be very high, your true airspeed will still be quite acceptable though.Note: these high flights were to clear mountaineous terrain and weather and you wouldn't need to fly this high if conditions were permitting. That said, even with the icing equipment on an aircraft this size and performance I would only use it to flee icing and wouldn't want to get stuck at 12,000 feet icing up and my only option be to climb out of it... not a good situation without turbocharging.BTW the RealityXP Sandel gauge included with the RXP version of the Baron is fantastic for spotting thunderstorm activity with its Stormscope feature. I was able to simulate a T-storm encounter close to Minneapolis two days ago and deviate around the severe weather area just like I would have in real life. That's the first time using MSFS that I have had that happen in a realistic manner.

Hi Zane,Didn't know that it's certified to that high altitude. I imagine the climb rate will not be very good there.I haven't used the Stormscope yet as I actually forgot that the SN3308 has one (had been using the WX radar on A36 which the Baron lacks). Will try it out!

Will try it out!I didnt even know it had a storm scope on it period; I have both the A36 and the Baron and love them both. I made a flight last night from Denver to Salt Lake over the Mountains and had a blast. I love this plane. I usually fly the heavies and the Dream Fleet A36 and Baron are the only GA aircraft I own and they get ALOT of flying time. Owning both will definitley not be something you would regret. Infact just based off the Baron and A36 I bought the Dream Fleet 727 last night. :)

Yes it has a working StormScope! the Reality XP Sandel SN3308 is a 100% replica of the real one, so are the GNS!Hope this helps!

If I had the twin first.. I wouldn't have bought the single unless I am flying the single in real life. But since the Single came first.. I got that,...but then I was looking forward to the twin and got that as well.
