October 7, 200520 yr "Cartoonish and bright"Well I lived four years on Antigua (Feb 1979 - Oct 1982), on Guam and the Philippines (1972-1976) and visited extensively - Yap, Palau, Truk (yes I know the name is now Chuuk) and Wake in the Pacific, along with Puerto Rico, Grand Turk, Eleuthera and Barbados in the Caribbean.Cartoonish and bright is a pretty accurate description of the buildings I saw everywhere in the tropics, and the ones I see in photos today.Yes I'm not real enamored with the greenish color - but it is several hundred levels better than the default textures. The richness of the green of the tropical folaige is something which must be experienced to believe. The one issue I have with the ground textures on Antigua is that 50% of the island suffers from a water shortage - like most small tropical islands. They have no ground water, so all the water must come from rainfall. The airport runway on Antigua is used to capture and funnel water into cisterns. Almost every home has a cistern to capture water from the roof if rain falls. There is a pretty good sized manmade lake on the northwest part of the island - again to hold rain water.I guess there would need to be seasonal textures to change from the green to the brown.I am most disappointed with the way the default airport approach and airspace information was discarded and only partially replaced. Might have been an acceptable practice in FS2002 - but very old unsatisfactory practice for FS2004. One of the inherent problems with updating FS2002 products to FS2004.Overall - I'm very satisfied with the product - all four volumes. The representation looks pretty real based on my experience and memories. Not perfect, but life is full of compromises - this isn't a terrible one.
October 8, 200520 yr I tried the Antilles 2004 that you guys mentioned and flew the ATR all around the islands that it covered and I did not see much difference. A couple airports were updated with better terminals but the scenery looks like the default. The hills and mountains are smooth so it doesn't look like it changed the mesh at all. Not sure aboue the landclass either. Overall, I am disappointed so Im thinking I might just try to the IWI.

October 9, 200520 yr Hornit:I understand your point. You are right.I am just mad as #### at myself because of my dissappointment now and in 2002. I like very much to fly both virtually and in a real plane in this area, and know it fairly well. I saw a Posting down below of Steve Halpern in which he of course rightly point out that they do not doctor the pictures shown in the product pages, and I never thought they did. And never implied that.AAMOF, like I say before I practically have bought just about everything Flight1 has made or sold on behalf of others, and never complained and never had to. But when you look at the whole set of sceneries, that is not what I had in mind. Rightly so it would be a sterile discussion totalk about everyone's liking or dislikings. Some love the Set of sceneries ,mesh and airport in IWI, some dont. Like they say nobody has rightly written about tastes and colours. My statement of " I have been burned again " has nothing to do with money and I have never had in my mind to get my money back in the 30 days period. Buying IWI was my decission! My dissapointment is with me and with the missrepresentation of some airports ( to me that was important than the textures, I could live with that.I am sorry if I offended somebody, next time I will try not to be so blunt.I appreciate everybody's comments.Edmundo CardenasSVMI
October 9, 200520 yr Mr Halpern:I am sorry that my comments have been missinterpreted some how, and I appreciate it when you say "So we do take some offense to customers saying stuff like that" (vis a vis my remark of "Being Burned").Please rest assure that my remarks has nothing to do with money. The idea of getting my money back within this 30 days period never crossed my mind. The statement " I have been burned " is really in reference to me. I came across IWI for FS2002 because it was sold bundled with some C177(the one I relly wanted to buy), not that I was buying IWI in particular.I did installed it but there were at that time so many caveats/conflicts via vis nearby Island that I unisntalled it.When Flight1 completed the IWI package I decided to buy it even though the textures very much like in FS 2002 were a bit odd to MY TASTE. My problem is not the textures not the mesh, but the fact that some airports do not reflect at all reality, that is the dissapointment with me.It has never crossed my mind the thought that You doctor the pics or textures as a sales gimmick. You are a very serious and reputable company and that is why I have purchased practically anything you have designed or sold on behalf of others.I have never have had the need to complain or request help. Your products behave very well from the install onwards and are very technically advanced.I am sorry again if my comments were obnoxious or blunt , and please accept my sincere apology. As you have noticed English is not my native language and sometimes my literal translations do not sound that good. I do however know a lot about Americano's culture and the ways you guys think and behave,IOW I understand you rather well, since I did all my undergradute and postgraduate College work in the US, and have worked here with International firms several times. So I do understand some of my fellow Forum members dislike of my remarks, and the way you felt about something said in my posting(the getting burned bit).Once again I apologize. Hoping tht you accept my sincere apologyEdmundo Cardenas SVMI
