Weather Smoothing?

Featured Replies

Hello fellow simmers!  As Im still getting accustomed to XP I haven't been able to sort out a good weather addon.  I've tried the NOAA plugin which works nice but there is still a lack of smoothing when transitioning different weather systems.  One second its overcast - a few seconds later it could update and then everywhere around you it became partially cloudy.  Does XP have anything comparable to Active Sky for FSX/P3D?  Is the NOAA plugin the only weather addon out there?

Hello Chris,

Weather is one of those "Work in progress" items of X-Plane....the first mainstream add on developer from FSX and P3D to offer a product for X-Plane is FSGRW (FS Global Real Weather). HiFi has also stated they are looking at releasing a product for X-Plane in the future but no timeline as yet.

LR and FSGRW appear to have been communicating regarding improvements to weather injection and turbulence, and it is hoped the upcoming XP version 10.50 will give us some good surprises.

In the meantime, there is a product in the pipeline called "Real Weather Connector" which promises to by-pass some of the existing weather injection limitations, expand cloud and wind layers, provide grid-type weather depiction and possibly eliminate sudden weather changes. Again, no timeline on release but should be out in the next few months.

Yeah, popping clouds/weather seems to be an issue regardless if you use stock engine or one of the addons like NOAA or FSGRW.

As Will mentioned, there is an addon in making (no release date, but seems to be ready in not so distant future) called Real Weather Connector. It will serve as a "bridge" connecting SkyMaxx Pro with any weather baking system, be it default X-Plane's or NOAA. It's meant to ensure that weather doesn't "pop" but rather ensure the smooth transition, meaning you could fly in nice weather and see the thunderstorm forming in the distance and then fly in it.

If you google for it, there were some screenshot/information posted elsewhere.

Thanks for the info.  Good times ahead it seems.  Starting to be more and more impressed with XP.
