Cockpit night lighting question

Featured Replies

I have always just accepted the issue I have with the flight deck night lighting but thought I should confirm that there is not a setting I am missing:

When adjusting the Background, AFDS and Pedastal lighting knobs, the surface texture is all textured/dotty (for want of a better explanation). This means I have to rotate the knob quite far around to get something that looks ok. Otherwise it can look quite ugly at lower light settings. Is this normal?

Yup, so normal that it comes up every couple of weeks.  It has a lot to do with your system abilities, which platform (FSX or P3D) and so on.  You are seeing a moire pattern: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moir%C3%A9_pattern

In P3D using DirectX11, the problem pretty much goes away and their HDR when properly configured provides a delightful night panel.
