A few minutes in and OOM/BSD or CTD

Recommended Posts

Try and get everything in here...

My P3Dv3 setup was asking questions from myself when i would fairly frequently run into OOMs and Blue Screen of Deaths...

So i decided to remove P3Dv3 and everything associated off my desktop and start again fresh with all the latest installers for products such as ORBX Global, OpenLC Europe and America, Vector and the FTX Full Terrains such as the UK & Norway. My sky and clouds upgrades come from REX. My AI trafficis carefully built and maintained freeware AIG traffic. I am an internal Beta member at AIG and ensure my AI is up to scratch with alpha channels and mipped textures.

Anyway the issue at hand is that i can boot up at any airport almost..example Melbourne v3 by ORBX (Newly released) or Cardiff by 29Palms/ORBX with the Aerosoft A319 or default 'aircreation' from FSX and following takeoff the sim crashes out literally 60 seconds or so into flight.....

I know that my installations have been clean and everything should be in perfect working order so its these persisting crashes that are bugging me even after a fresh install.

The reported error and most common is: StackHash_0a9e

It is impossible to determine the cause of a StackHash.  It is a common error (as you state).  It could be caused by high p3d settings, maybe a bad overclock (if you are overclocked).  In any case, the AVSIM CTD Guide provides the list of all of the probable causes and possible solutions.  For me, the first StackHash I ever got would never go away so I reinstalled Windows 7 and then FSX (P3D had not been released yet).  Problem solved.  On another occasion, it was a too high voltage setting in the BIOS.  Got it too with MyTrafficX like many others did but that was before MyTraffic Professional 6.0a.  I do not see them as much anymore.  When I do get one, I think about what I did just recently that would have caused a StackHash all of a sudden.  They did not happen yesterday or 3 days ago, they just started happening.

If you cannot figure it out right away, you'll have to start investigating and investigating means moving your p3d.cfg, dll.xml, and scenery.cfg to a temporary directory.  The p3d.cfg and scenery.cfg will be rebuilt.  You want to do things like that just to see if it is one of the configs or something in the dll.xml.  The AVSIM CTD Guide again provides guidance for investigating.

Good luck in finding the cause.

Well last night i was using the Airbus A319 from Aerosoft and sat on the tarmac setting up the MDCU at Ibiza (Evo), eventually took off after using GSX for push back...taxi to runway and took off, after climbing to cruise heading towards London i  approached the coast of mainland Europe (Southern France) and all the ground textures were totally blurred out...i continued to cruise expecting the textures to eventually load up but they remained blurred, there was no intermittent notification of OOM looming and by the time i had passed Toulouse the sim fell into BSD.

I have the frames at unlimited, V Sync on. My settings arent to extravagant to be fair....

Consistent BSDs point to an underlying hardware problem - unstable overclock, defective system or video RAM, CPU or GPU overheating, problems with drivers (especially the video driver) etc. It could even be caused by the presence of malware.

The AVSIM CTD Guide provides a link to BlueScreenofDeath (BSOD) view.  When you view the BSOD, it provides information in pink as to the probable drivers that caused the BSOD giving you a good clue as to the cause.  BSOD's indicate a hardware problem so they should not be taken lightly.

I would get that issue fixed first and then try your flight again.  It could be just a corrupted driver.  There are many driver update programs on the Internet and it costs nothing to download one and see if you have any outdated hardware drivers (USB ports, sys bus, HDD, SATA controllers, etc.).  I use Driver Booster which is totally free but has a lot of ads and nags to get you to purchase a license.  Still it is free.

The Affinity Mask tweak requires some computer expertise as the setting is not the same for everyone and, if it is wrong, you will have even more problems.

Try turning off cloud shadows.  Just leave shadows for your aircraft.  I have found cloud shadows are a major resource hog and I do not have them turned on.  It's just more eye-candy that can slow down a system.  Nice effect though...

Is anyone certain of what exactly is going on here? OOM errors, BSODs and generic FSX crashes to desktop are three very different things. It would be very strange and unusual to be randomly having all three. I think they are being used interchangeably here to refer to (I think) generic FSX crashes.

Cheers!

Ive not fed back for awhile but there is defo something causing P3D to force my PC to completely either freeze/crash and eventually restart or BSOD and restart.

This is occurring in even the most low key areas with little demand.

Im using the AS A319 for example, takeoff from Birmingham EGBB heading towards Scotland and about 10minutes after takeoff it all crashes out as above....

It is not only on this route its in general, P3D is unusable and i cant work out why its become so unstable OR what is causing it to falter!

I have however just updated 15 various drivers with Diver Booster as you suggested...

I am utterly clueless when it comes to the BIOS etc...My PC was built some years ago by a Gaming company for FSX in mind.

It was overclocked...To be fair P3D was never doing this some months ago, i had removed it all and made a fresh install of everything when the crashes first started, i had hoped this would have fixed the issue which it hasn't...

I cant publish Crashapp info because the BSODs or Freeze to hard reboot arent recording it...

P3D has since BSOD on the ramp at Edinburgh while i was setting up (or attempting to) depart.

Ive heard about adding an Affinity Mask entry however i also wouldn't know how to go about getting that right number..

99.9% of all BSOD's are caused by a hardware failure of some sort.  Most likely cause is a corrupted or bad driver.  I cannot see how any software program like P3D can cause a BSOD.  The only possibility is with high settings and that will cause a BSOD with the 0124 bugcheck.  A software program that places a lot of resources on the system settings like FSX/P3D will trigger a too high or too low CPU voltage setting or another setting in any overclock.  It is impossible for me to overclock my system higher than 4.4GHz and I have found the stable setting at 4.2GHz.  Overclocks will not allow you to push your computer to its limits.  Maybe for 2 or 3 sessions with P3D but it is going to bite you eventually.  There are many computer experts (of which I am not one) who have succeeded to defeat my theories on overclocking.  I have run all kinds of benchmark tests to try to get my computer to BSOD with an overclock set at 4.6GHz and it refuses to crash.  I load FSX (haven't tried it with P3D) and my computer crashes with a BSOD (again, a computer system problem, not a software problem).

Your images are very difficult to read.

Best regards,
