FS Global Real Weather vs Real weather Connector

Featured Replies

What are the major differences between the two products?

I believe that RWC places the clouds in the sim. Does FSGRW place clouds or does it just feed weather and XP places the clouds based on FSGRW data? If no, is this why I see some vids where both FSGRW and RWC are used together?

Does FSGRW allow static or user created controlled weather (not live feeds).

Rwc makes transitions into weather further out smooth.

Fsgrw is like asn.

Really 2 different products fsgrw and rwc.

Fsgrw feeds weather and can do so static or dynamic. Not sure if you can set certain weather (not at pc atm) but that can be done in xp menu also.

Correct, FSGRW is a weather generator, uses GRIB and interpolates weather to generate it around the world.

RWC is an interface that collects the data generated by a weather creator program such as FSGRW, XPlane default weather, NOAA plugin etc. and uses bypasses a lot of the XPlane limitations to show you this weather. XPlane has a limit of 3 layers of cloud and 3 layers of wind. RWC aims to by pass this limitation and inject whatever weather is required.

They are both different programs for different goals.

That sums it up pretty well. It's still a bit tedious to totally change the representation of weather in X-Plane, because you need several addons for the different tasks:

- Clouds and sky colors (Skymaxx, Ultra Weather XP, free cloud and sky textures etc.)

- Weather Engine (NOAA, FSGRW, FSRealWX)

- Weather Data "Interpreter" (RWC)

Of course you can fly X-Plane just fine with the built in real weather and clouds (which is what I do at the moment) until there's a better solution. A while ago the ASN team said they were working on an X-Plane version, but there hasn't been any news about that since.

And since a few versions we have GRIB-based winds and turb aloft data in X-Plane 10 too.

I didn't notice until yesterday that we can aloso visualize winds at FL120 and FL340 in the Map view.
