Installing v3 MegaScenery and Software Licensing

 Hi Jim!

Per usual no response.  Perhaps because you are a moderator on AVSIM forums you get preferential treatment.  The last time I had an issue MegaScenery.  I called and sent numerous messages to PC Aviator US and no response.  Fianlly got through via phone to Mark who gave me Robert's email.  Perhaps I need to send a message to Dean PC Aviator(AUS). From what I have read he is great when it comes to customer service.

It would be nice to get preferential treatment from developers but I do not.  I send an e-mail to their support section as shown at the bottom of the site where you download the files.  I have had one instance where they did not respond.  I accidentally purchased the same scenery twice (I have almost all of the US States) and asked where I can get a refund.  I later looked in their FAQ or Knowledge Base that mistakes like that will not be fixed and you will not be refunded.  So I lost $20.  I made the mistake, they didn't.  They responded when I sent a detailed e-mail, once with an image showing the missing textures in MSE Southern California.  They have later responded they have fixed the issue and will upload the new textures immediately but it takes 24 hours to process.  I would never ever send a support request to PC Aviator.  That's like sending a letter to the White House when the problem can be answered at a field office level.  I did not buy Tennessee but, if you can, I would post a picture of the missing textures here and also send the image to MegaScenery Support.

Dean has provided excellent support to our members here in these forums in the past especially when the MegaScenery Earth products were first released.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim!  But customer support is where you are supposed to direct your inquiries for technical issues with their products and to say it is the White House is more than a little absurd.  I will go thru Dean!  Thanks!

MSE is sold through megasceneryearth.com and through PC Aviator, so if I bought from PCA, I would contact their support, too.

So, if you bought AS16 from PC Aviator, you would go to PC Aviator for support?  REX products too?  The Majestic Dash 8 Q400?  I personally would go to the developers website or use their official support vehicle (be it a dedicated support forum, a ticket system, or e-mail).  Same thing if I bought AS16 or REX from SimPlanet, PilotShop, FlightSim Store, SimMarket, etc.  PC Aviator is a store where you buy software.  MegaScenery has its own store and you can buy the product from there or go over to PC Aviator and get it.  But, when you buy it, you go to the MegaScenery support system just like you would go to HiFi for AS16 support.  That's the way I see it anyway.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim,

PC Aviator (US) and Megasceneryearth are one and the same:
http://www.megasceneryearth.com/store/cart.php?page=about

"MegaScenery, MegaSceneryEarth, and all obvious derivatives are trademarks of PC Aviator Inc."

MSE is a brand of PCA/US. Megasceneryearth.com is a "microsite" of PCA/US.

I could contact them through either site. The reason I would contact them through the site I bought from is that this site holds my respective customer account.

Then you will always have problems getting support.  I noticed on their website they plan in the near future on posting a link to each website for the applicable product purchased so you can go there and get support.  SimMarket does this now and you know exactly where to go to get support.

I agree going back to PC Aviator if you want a refund or did not receive your product.  But if the product does not work properly you need to submit a trouble ticket to the developer of that product.

Best regards,

Jim

I just downloaded Tennessee V3.  I checked the scenery folder and I noticed some of the BGL's were missing from the sequence (i.e. it starts at TN_4 instead of TN_1 and there is a gap from TN_34 to TN_74) is that typical??   I submitted a support request but they typically go unanswered at PC Aviator US and MegaScenery.  I love photoreal scenery and am hoping that V3 is much better than 2.0.  UltimateVFR is the best and it has autogen but he only has the Southwest covered so far.

Yes that is normal.

I've only just got around to install my V3 scenery and have now started to analyse the changes. They have obviously developed a new naming scheme for the bgl files.

Previously the bgls were named xxx_letter_number.bgl where the letter were north-south coordinates and the numbers were west-east coordinates in a grid over the state. Now they just use xxx_Number.bgl. The Number is still giving you the N-S W-E coordinates for the tile but it is a bit less obvious how now. They now name tiles in increasing number order. If the state is all and all 25 bgl tiles wide they now divide the Number series in to stripes of 25. So Number 1-25 gives you the W-E coordinates for the most northern grid line of tiles. 26-50 gives you the 2nd most northern grid line of tiles. 51-75 gives you the 3rd most northern grid line of tiles and so on.

If the state isn't a perfect N-S W-E square some numbers will be missing as their respective coordinates in the square grid do not cover any part of the state. So the fact that all numbers from 1-whateverthehighestnumberis are not present doesn't mean that tiles are missing. It's very easy to think tiles are missing if you don't know how they describe coordinates in a grid system.

For example, If in V2 the first bgl was named xxx_A_04.bgl it didn't automatically make you miss the xxx_A_01.bgl , xxx_A_02.bgl and xxx_A_03.bgl. Or if in V3 the bgls go from say xxx_75.bgl to xxx_78.bgl you instantly wonder where did 76 and 77 go? Whilst in V2 the equivalent naming of the tiles would could have been from xxx_B_25.bgl to xxx_C_03.bgl and that doesn't instantly make you wonder why xxx_C_01.bgl and xxx_C_02.bgl aren't there?
