I prefer SE over my old FSX Gold boxed edition.

Whilst I agree with most of the points in the video, I think that his comments about FPS are misleading. Frame rates depend on so many different factors - CPU, screen resolution, add-ons, internal FSX settings, external graphics settings to name but a few. I would say that the 70+ FPS he mentions in the video is unachievable for most (all?) people once you start adding scenery and airport add-ons and payware aircraft. As I said in an earlier post, I prefer FSX:SE but if the only reason that you're buying it is for the massive performance improvements some people claim, then I think you'll be very disappointed.

Also, with the boxed version of FSX I never saw the black "scenery popping" effects he mentions in the video so I don't think that that is anything that's specifically been fixed in SE.

..okay, some updates

Fresh OS Win7 64Bit installed. Used few of Nick advises, those that I felt comfortable with

  • FSX S-E Installed
  • ORBX SoCal installed
  • Accu-Feel installed
  • Sliders are almost to max very few tweaks
  • Frame limited to 30

  • CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975BE OC to 4Ghz
  • AMD Radeon R9-280X stock
  • All Saitkes devices, GF Modules as well as VRInsight functioning properly

Old Rig seems to be useful after all ... :-)

7 hours in the air few touch and goes, full stops etc, from KSNA to KSMA  all smooth and ran as expected.

I gate  about 17FPS over LAX & 24-30 in most of other areas

Temp of all components is being constantly monitored.

So far lot of fun, next week back to live ATC with PilotEdge

So I guess, there are some reason to switch after all .... lol

Cheers
