Addon scenery lighting & Aircraft

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've recently bought a few new addon scenery's Frankfurt, Dubrovnik and a few others, I only then noticed that the airport lighting at night doesn't interact with your aircraft in any way. Even though your at the gate with 3 fully light flood lights surrounding you, your aircraft remains permanently in the dark. Of-course this is because the addon airport is pretty much a collection of static meshes which don't create any light to actually hit your aircraft. Would it be possible to bridge the gap and link the gate flood lights and your aircraft, someone must have noticed this?

That unfortunate  result is built into the design of the addon scenery. The gate floodlights may be using the wrong type of light special effect (fx) which does not project into space. If you were really ambitious, you could read up about how to edit fx files and find the one's that correspond to your addon scenery. The fx files (like cfg files and xml files) are written in English and conform to a specific format which is documented online, like for example the Prepar3d SDK:

All you need is a text editor. Or if you want something more powerful, you can download FXEditor:

It's a nice, simple utility and is also fun to play around with.

I don't think P3D does this. XP10 will do it natively though.

This is absolutely one of my biggest pet peeves with P3D and FSX.

The lights obviously interact, because there's shadowing...  Somehow it doesn't translate to night.

Thanks for the replys fellow simmers, Glad I'm not the only one to notice this. I may just have to continue as normal until someone who knows what there doing fixes it sometime in the future. I don't want to start editing files. non-the less thanks for the useful possible solution
