The Flight Deck appears “squashed”

Featured Replies

I've changed my computer to a 21.5 inch Apple iMac and operate FSX in Bootcamp under Windows 10. It’s a powerful beast :

iMac :           Retina 4K

Processor :  3.1 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory :      8 GB MHz DDR3

Graphics :     Intel Iris Pro Graphocs 6200 1536 MB

                                                                     THE PROBLEM

The 777 Flight Deck appears as if it needs stretching out from each side and the middle of the panel looks slightly "fat".

I’ve tried many of the resolutions including 1792 X 1344, 1920 X 1440, 2048 X 1152……..but none fixed the problem.

Advice would be most welcome.

Isn't the resolution of the retina 21.5" 4096×2304.

Why aren't you setting that?

You could also try a less demanding 2304×1296 or 2560×1440.

You're right but this machine really isn't as powerful as OP believes. Running FSX at that resolution won't be a good experience I imagine with that iGPU.

4790K @4.9GHz, 32GB DDR3, 1080Ti, W10-64bit

have you set WideViewAspect=True in your display in your fsx.cfg

Do you think it's because I'm using the STEAM edition of FSX?

Nope. Just looking in the wrong spot.

Open up Windows Explorer and type %appdata% in the address bar at the top. Hit enter. Browse to your FSX-SE folder and it'll be in there.

Agree, you are going to have trouble pushing 4K

but does the screen look correct when run at 4K?

As per my edit above you could also try a less demanding 2304×1296 or 2560×1440.

Anything that maintains the screen's native aspect ratio should look right.

The first two resolutions you list in your first post have the wrong aspect ratio ie 1.33.

The third is correct ie 1.77 so don't know why that does not work.

Bingo! 2048 X 1152 hit the spot.

My thanks to all of you....
