Push Back Niggle.

Featured Replies

Hi Guy's.I have a slight problem with using my Push Back in FS9.I have tried using the shift-p, and shift-x as someone else suggested, but, it did the same thing.the problem is that when I want to push back, and swing right or left, the plane just keeps going back in a straight line, it won't turn at all. I have tried this in the PMDG,Level D, PSS etc, and in spot view, as well as in the cockpit.any thoughts would be most welcome.thanks,

Are you pressing '1' or '2' to make it turn? Are you doing other things after starting the pushback?Doing certain things after you start a pushback will make FS change the meaning of the '1' and '2' keys, so that once you do press them to make the plane turn, FS won't apply it to the pushback. My strategy is basically just to setup my view as spot view facing backwards so I can watch where I'm going and watch for AI's that might get in the way. (Panning using the hat switch doesn't seem to affect the 1 or 2 buttons in a pushback.) Once pushback is started, I do nothing but pan around as necessary to see where I'm going, steer with the 1 and 2 buttons, and shift-P as necessary to stop the push or cut a turn short of 90 degrees. Once my pushback is finished, then I go back into the flight deck and start my engines.Another thing to remember is to press the appropriate turn button (1 or 2) about one-half to one plane length before the point where you want to turn. FS will always push straight back a certain distance (as defined in the aircraft configuration or airfile) before it starts to turn. After a number of times, you should get an idea how far a particular aircraft will push back straight before it actually turns, giving you a better idea when to press the button so it turns where you want it to.... :)I know this is a bit unrealistic since almost every commercial airliner starts at least one engine during pushback, but when I'm doing complicated pushbacks with turns, this is all I can do because I can't be starting engines and controlling the push tug at the same time..... :(Didn't know there was a shift-X involved in pushing back?

Hi Guys,These type of pushback problems (if not UserError) are usually caused by a crummy addon gauge (inducing the well-known "continuous event problem").But here's a tip :-): try my groundhandling gauges, which solve all these problems and add a lot more realism.File: RCBgh-40.zip in the library.Cheers, Rob Barendregt

Hi Guy's.Stonecold, what I meant was that some people have found it can be cured by assigning shift-x, instead of shift-p.Rob, whats this continuous event problem you're on about, and by the way. it is very difficuld adding yet more gauges into the likes of PSS T7, and PMDG 744, they have used up all the assignment spaces already, but thanks anyway.PS anyone know why I have those two little weird picture like things by the bottom left corner of my signatures,

shift P works fine for me, you have to follow the pressing of those 2 keys with either 1 or 2, almost right after.About the squares in your sig, it seems to be just bad html code in your signature line

Sometimes, if you are very quick with the second key press as Alex suggests, you can get it accepted into the sim.-----------------------------------As far as editing the panel.cfg of the PSS bird or other birds, it's not that hard if you ask me, but maybe that's because I've been doing it for quite a while now. Taking the PSS 777 for instance and installing Rob Barendregt's Ground Handling gauge into it...Do I think I really need to access the Clock by pressing Shift+7? No, because I can just use the 'Panel Switcher' to access the Clock(it has a click spot labeled 'CLCK' to pop-up the clock if I want it). So I will move the line 'Window06=Clock' to the bottom of the list and renumber it to 14...(Window Titles)Window00=Main PanelWindow01=Main Panel ZOOMWindow02=Centre PedestalWindow03=Display Select PanelWindow04=FMCWindow05=RadiosWindow07=SetupWindow08=Outboard display pop-upWindow09=Inboard display pop-upWindow10=Upper center display pop-upWindow11=Lower center display pop-upWindow12=Panel switcherWindow13=FSWXR2100Window14=ClockNow I will go down to the (Window06) section and highlight the section, then press CTRL-X to 'cut' it, and then put it down at the bottom of all the (WindowXX) sections by pressing CTRL-V to paste it in down there, and of course renumber it to 14...//--------------------------------------------------------(Window14)Background_color=16,16,16 size_mm=220,220window_size_ratio=1.000 visible=0window_pos= 0.50,0.57ident=8274gauge00=PSS-B777!Clock, 0,0,220,220Now to put in the section for Rob's Ground Handling gauge, underneath the (Windows05) section of course...(Window Titles)Window00=Main PanelWindow01=Main Panel ZOOMWindow02=Centre PedestalWindow03=Display Select PanelWindow04=FMCWindow05=RadiosWindow06=Groundhandling :)Cheers,Jimmy Richards

>it is very difficuld adding yet more gauges into>the likes of PSS T7, and PMDG 744, they have used up all the>assignment spaces already,>but thanks anyway.Well, there is no need to add it to the PMDG 744 as it has its own pushback gauge on the radio panel.CheersThomas

Hi Gang.thank you all for the replies, they certainly have given me food for thought. and a special Thank You to Onetinsoldier for the very informative, and well explained panel alterations for the T7. very well documented. it's just a pity that it is not working from whatever reason.I will now go get Robs Gauge and install it in the T7. but it looks as if I will then have to alter things for the other PSS fleet aircraft that I have as well, such as the A330, A340, Vulcan, Concorde, Dash8 too. but then, I will have problems with the PSS T7 when they release the up-date for it. so I will have to have a back-up copy of the original one safe.oh well, that's Life I suppose.thanks again guy's.

You're welcome Steve. :) Yes, you should make a backup of the panel.cfg file, it only takes a few seconds. However, I wouldn't doubt if running a patch/update from them would just install a new panel.cfg file contained in the update and overwrite your altered one. Depends on whether the patch contains altogether new files that it lays down, or it's a byte patcher. Most patches/updates contain new files.Cheers,Jim Richards

rgr, understood. thanks Onetin,by the way, I love this gauge, can someone explain to me why I have not used this before ! ! the push-back itself is great, but the part that does really impress me is the taxi speed using throttles and brakes combined,WoW.it's fantastic.

> why I have not used this before ! ! Hi Steve,If you don't know my gauge work by now ....:-)Cheers, Rob Barendregt

Can I just say that Rob B's pushback and taxi gauge is one addon I would not do without and have installed it on every single one of my Airbuses. It does exactly what it says on the tin and does it very well indeed. Definitely recommended.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/134353.jpgRob Elliott, EGPE InvernessPSS Airbus Support andAirbus Fleet Training Captain, British Airways Virtual [email protected]http://www.speedbirdonline.co.uk/airbus.htmlhttp://www.bavirtual.co.uk

You guy's are going to love this, but, where exactly on the over head in the LDS 767 is the push back operated from! a screen shot with it circled would be fantastic,I will have to download the manual again,Thanks,

you have to go the level-d menuI don't like the way they implemented it at all, but thats how you do it
