Wife needing Help to buy Hubby Flight Sim App for iMac

Featured Replies

Hello all.  I am hoping someone reading here can help me.  I am writing you from Winnipeg, Manitoba.  We just bought a new iMac.  Before we had Windows and my husband used Flight Simulator 2004 A Century of Flight.  He used a CHProducts - Flight Sim Yoke LE and Pro Pedals.  At times he would use Combat Flight Simulator WW11 Europe Series with a Microsoft Force Feedback 11 Joystick.

Larry obtained his pilot's license but let it lapse due to medical problems  He very much enjoyed flying on the computer using real weather, etc.  He downloaded (what I believe to remember) as a Piper Cherokee plane and enjoyed flying it.  He never had any interest in flying the bigger planes or getting involved in online team flying.  He just loved spending a cold, winter afternoon in front of the screen with his pedals and yoke.

I would love to surprise him by getting our new computer set up with a Flight Sim.  As well, if he could use his existing pedals and yoke - that would be great. I confess I am not Tech savvy so if there is someone out there that could tell me what and where to buy something, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Elaine Forbes

I know others who run Flight Simulator on an iMac, using Bootcamp.

See:  http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac/how-run-windows-on-mac-using-vmware-boot-camp-3497251/

Your husband should be able to re-install his Flight Simulator on the new machine, using the Windows OS under Bootcamp.

All you would need to buy is a copy of Windows, or possibly re-use the Windows license from the old machine.

Hello, Elaine!

One thing you want to look at are the Plugs on the end of the Yoke and Pedals. If they have a USB Plug on the end (just like a little Flash Drive), they will work fine with your iMac. If the Yoke & Pedals use a Plug with two Rows of small pins (15 in all), you will need to Purchase a new Yoke & Pedals for them to work with the iMac.

Once you Install Windows on the iMac, all you will need is a Copy of FS 2004 (it will also be referred to as 'FS9') and you're on your way!

Hopefully, mine & Bert's (and hopefully others')  advice will be helpful to you. As always... ask questions, and we'll try to answer them for you.
