Prefab Airports Tip (P3D/FSX Users Especially)

Featured Replies

Since many of us are new arrivals to XP11, I thought I would post a tip. XP is missing many smaller airports that we are accustomed to. If you use FSEconomy, for instance, you will want these smaller airports. The solution is this: http://www.4xplane.nl/prefab/

It adds 25,000 airports with 33 varieties of scenery!  Follow the instructions carefully.  You will also need this library (not sure if mentioned in the instructions, but it is required): http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/26611-3d-people-library/

If you do a lot of VFR flying and use PlanG, installing these files also has the advantage of allowing you to continue using your P3D/FSX database for route planning since PlanG has not (yet) been updated to XP11.  You can export your flight plan in XP format and use in XP11.

The author of the package also wrote the fabulous XOrganizer program, which is another must have for organizing scenery.  I'm affiliated in no way, but just want to give a shout out.

Thanks for adding this.  It is my understanding that if one adds an airport manually then future XP updates will not add that airport when it is added/updated. Does this package get around that somehow?

Yes, it does.

When you install this package, you have to make sure that its priority in the "scenery_packs.ini" file is below the "global airports" (as its installation instructions prescribe). This way, when a new airport is added to the gateway and then updated in X-Plane, it will automatically show instead of the prefab airport.

No your understanding is wrong juste make sure all of your airports including prefab are written before ,Global Airports,in the scenery_packs ini. its only the global airport that are updated

Thanks again - seems to be giving some error messages in XP11 though.

Make sure you install the additional library file I linked to above.

Did that - will check again.  Thanks!
