FS Menu Annoyance - Developers read!

Featured Replies

It is just a small annoyance, but has anyone noticed that almost every FS Addon uses their own menu entry in FS? FS Passengers, Flight One, PMDG, Active Camera, FDC, EFB - just to name a few. And it makes my FS menu longer than the Nile. Why don't they just put everything in the "Modules" menu where it belongs? You can have submenus after all.Just a thought...Pat

Modules menu is a special menu created by FSUIPC, and not all vendors endorse nor support FSUIPC...Just a thought!Jean-Luc

Then you'll get someone else complaining about how big their drop-down menus/submenus are... "my submenus are bigger than the Grand Canyon" :)

There's more space vertically, than horizontally... ;-)

You know I think it's a very good and bad sign about our hobby when we start complaining about the sheer number of add-ons we have to choose from... ;-)

It's weird when you see menus from planes that not loaded right now

Pat,I think you have raised a valid point, and it is also something that I have noticed over the recent years. It would be good if developers could agree on a standard menu item (eg: "3rd Party") and then plonk all the submenus under that.Soon I shall run out of menu real estate... :-)

I agree. I don't think the developers who impose their own menu do it deliberately for arrogant or egotistical reasons, but it can come across in that way, and does become very irritating when you top menu is festooned to the gills with proprietry menus. There is no real need for them and I agree that it would be better to have a generic third party menu drop down.Rob Young - RealAir Simulations

Having started buying payware relatively recently I also am now just a little put off by not only the fs menu entries, but registry entries/start menu additions etc. It really seems that if you're really into fs payware you need a machine for that alone! :)I'm glad all this great stuff is available mind you, dont mean to sound unappreciative. In some cases, where possible, I do dummy installs on a second machine then port over the necessaries manually to my main system - particularly sceneries. Naturally I'm on my own supportwise when I dothis - on the main system anyway.regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/mar.../sup_banner.jpghttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/markrey/lsd2.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256

Can't agree more with you Rob and Graeme.Since FS Team members read these forums let's hope a new item will be added in the FS10 menu bar.best regards,

Nope.Say I have plane A installed, but now I flying in default C172 for example. Menu is still here.

I may be wrong here, but the way I understand it to work is that the drop down menus are put there by dlls. If a dll is put in an appropriate place for FS to read it (e.g. the modules directory), it will always load all of them. They may not be immediately active, such as FS Navigator until you press F9 to access it, but they are always loaded. This is why the menus will always appear.I think the idea that someone came up with above of a single drop down, which developers can then apply sub-menus to is going to become a necessity in the current climate.Cheers,Ian P.

I believe if developers is smart enough to make own menus, they should be able to hide it when menu not necessary :)
