December 20, 200520 yr Hi all,I did a search on the forum and did find a few threads on Deleting aircraft and possible dangers in doing that. The threads date back a ways, and I thought a new inquiry might be in order. I really want to hear from some of you again to see if any ill effects occur after deleting numerous aircraft from my aircraft folder. I DO NOT INTEND TO DELETE DEFAULT AIRCRAFT EVEN THOUGH I RARELY FLY ANY OF THEM. But I really need to "Clean House" of all the planes I never, ever fly. I believe it will actually help the sim in many ways (loading times, and perhaps even performance...don't know for sure).So....please tell me before I become impulsive and just do it, if indeed it is safe to do.I would imagine that gauges should just be left alone. Right? Thanks for any valuable input.
December 20, 200520 yr No problems, deleted 56 one time, no ill effect. Just keep the defaults and uninstall any payware thru the proper way to remove registry entries and any extra files in the FS9 folder.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
December 20, 200520 yr Author You can delete any aircraft you don't fly. I have never found any problems after deleting add-on aircraft. And, as I fly only payware add-ons, I have deleted all of the defaults except the C172 which I use for my startup flight - again, with no ill effects.Doug Edited because I can't spel Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. December 20, 200520 yr Thanks. Now I feel better. Tomorrow night, my Aircraft Folder will be "justifiably" lighter.
December 20, 200520 yr A better suggestion would be to use Flight Sim Manager and move the aircraft to the hanger. This gets them out of FS and ensures that if you accidentally delete something you need that you can get it back.Mark. Mark CYYZ
December 20, 200520 yr Me too. I have deleted all default planes except the Cessna 172. Its a good idea to burn them all to CD....just in case. However I have never had any problems since I deleted the defaults a year ago! :)Also like Mark mentioned: create a folder to *move* planes into (planes that you dont fly). That way you can make your FS9/Aircraft folder lighter and at the save time have all your other planes safely in the "hangar" ready to be used.
December 20, 200520 yr Author Or, as many of us do, simply keep a backup of the entire default FS9 installation on the HDD. That allows for a quick fix of anything that erroneously gets deleted, overwritten, or otherwise messed up.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
