Wilco 737 PIC- Is it a Hopeless Cause??

Featured Replies

Hello All,Just purchased the 737-300 from Wilco a few days ago, and I'm having a really bad problem with the autopilot causing drastic fluctuations in altitude. From reading posts on the Feelthere forums, it seems to be a problem either with FSUIPC or with the CH yoke being too sensitive (they suggest either turning the joystick off completely, or increasing the null zone, which doesn't work for me). Funny that I don't have this problem with any other payware or freeware aircraft. I don't want to post this on the Feelthere forum, because I know all I will get is the same old answer that they've given about this, which doesn't help me a bit (and I do have the latest FSUIPC installed). Just wondering if anyone here is experiencing this problem with the autopilot not being able to hold altitude, and if so, is there another solution? I see that a service update is immenent, but from looking at what it will address, I don't see a fix for this on the list. I am really past the point of frustration with this product. One of the reasons I purchased it over the PMDG 737 was the inclusion of Mike Ray's manual, but that turned out to be a real joke. It's only just over 50 pages, and it doesn't go in depth about anything (except for a few pages of advertisements trying to sell the "full" version of his books, which I am not knocking in any way, shape, or form!). I just tried a flight with it on VATSIM, and I had to fly nearly the entire flight by hand because the autopilot was up to it's old tricks. I e-mailed Wilco 2 days ago about a refund (I know that Flight 1 does this, but not sure about Wilco), but surprisingly, I have not gotten a response. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Ive had some random auto pilot wierdness. Which in my book means it doesnt work. I mean in real life I wouldnt trust it with a load of passengers. I cannot time accel over 8x since it will send the plane into a death spiral.I had fun with it for a few days but Im afraid its making its way to the back of my hanger pretty fast. Just not enough there visually or otherwise to keep my interest.

Yes,It is absolutely fraught with several serious problems. In all likelihood, most of these should be ironed out. However, the Wilco/feelThere 737 is a classic case of paying to beta test until a proper version 1.1 is released. In fact, the developers all but admit this.I suspect that you'll soon have a workable product with this - but right now it is as erractic as you indicate. The FMC/CDU is modeled fairly well.

How many products are bug free on release? PMDG and Level D take at least the first patch to iron out the main problems...Regarding auto pilot holding altitudes, have you tried the latest beta version of FSUIPC from Petes forums? And talking about 8x time acceleration, lol, yes thats "realistic" alright. Where do you fly that you have to accelerate the game that much in a 737???

The autopilot holds quite well most of the time. Try to disable their CWS implementation from the options panel, it is too sensitive to joystick noise and it drives the autopilot crazy. My main issue is that VNAV hunts up and down more than it should. Oh and that the panel perspective is not EADI EHSI in the middle of the screen like it was with the old DF737. I don't know about others but I have had enough of sitting on the throttles when it comes to FS panels.Regards,

Vassilis,Agree 110% - I'd really like a proper 2D panel pilot's perspective as well.J-

I've had no problems when it comes to maintaining altitude. The VNAV does have some inconsistencies, but overall I find this to be a really enjoyable aircraft to fly. The only serious issue I have is frame rates, and I know Feelthere is working on it.

Not sure about your issues, but I know VAS and Turbulence settings on my ASV set up were throwing the VNAV for a loop and making handflying dificult as well. The new FSUICP has fixed the more dramatic, near-instantaneous wind changes making it less of a problem. I just flew a flight from KPIT to KMKE on VATSIM with ASV on and had no issues with the AP.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have.
